Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

HORRIBLE customer service Upon arriving at the Valet section of the Showboat, no valet worker was available. As we waited, finally someone came out and told me where to park my car, then disappeared again. I found him and asked do I need a ticket or anything? He said no you're good. So we checked in for the night and the next morning I realize they had my car towed. The Showboat is saying there is nothing they can do and the Valet company believes his worker's word over mine. So on top of paying for the hotel, I had to uber to the tow yard and pay over $200 for my car to get out of impound. The whole time I thought I had valeted my car. It's OBVIOUS the valet has a connection with the towing company and this is a CLEAR scam. They set me up and now no one wants to take responsibility. The showboat should compensate me in some way since THEIR valet company is claiming they did nothing wrong.

It was very loud with games and go carts, but nice for kids. Have fun weekend with family and friends! Room clean but elevators did not work properly. We had to walk down 9 flights of stairs then the escalator. Old rugs throughout.

Won’t be staying overnight again We spent the weekend here so the kids (3 & 9) could go to the waterpark, which is why 2 stars instead of 1. I’d rather just make the 1.5hr drive roundtrip and not stay overnight again. The beds were horrendously uncomfortable, there was a 1” gap at the bottom of the door that let in EVERY sound AND smell from the hall, the mini fridge was broken, and the hotel itself just looked like it was in the middle of shutting down. It wasn’t worth the money, especially in the off-season. The people working there were incredibly nice, so it’s nothing against them. The waterpark was fun for the kids but even after being open for 2 years, you can see where things are starting to breakdown and not get repaired. The squirt guns in the towers are absolutely clogged with mineral deposits rendering them useless, most of the buttons that the kiddos step on/push to activate water features are either physically broken (like, the button is cracked) or they just don’t activate when pressed. I will say that the lifeguards were PHENOMENAL at constantly monitoring for water safety. Again, the people there were great, the actual place, a big nope.
