Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Cleanliness, safety, and basic functionality are fundamental expectations Unfortunately, our experience fell far below even the most basic standards of cleanliness, safety, and functionality that were advertised and reasonably expected. Room and Bathroom Issues We encountered numerous maintenance and cleanliness issues in our room, including: The toilet base had deteriorating, raised areas with visible rust The sink contained an excessive number of cracks The hairdryer in the room did not work The shower curtain had visible stains There was no towel rack on the bathroom door The room contained only one chair for a table designed to seat two, which was extremely inconvenient for a family of four The telephone was visibly dirty to the point that I did not feel comfortable using it The mirrors were not properly cleaned The television did not work, appearing to have dead or missing batteries in the remote None of the electrical outlets functioned properly; plugs would fall out unless physically held in place, which is unsafe and unacceptable Amenities and Facilities The water park was a primary reason we chose this hotel and, while the children did enjoy portions of it, there was a serious and disturbing issue that must be addressed. The water park bathrooms were not all functioning, and there was no signage posted to notify guests. I entered the bathroom area with my toddler, only to discover that waste could not be disposed of properly. This situation was not only unsanitary and disgusting, but extremely upsetting as a parent. There was no attendant or management staff present to report the issue to or to have it addressed in real time. This represents a major failure in sanitation, communication, and guest safety. Additionally, several advertised amenities were either unavailable or inadequately maintained: The soft-serve ice cream machine was not operational during our stay The arcade, another major attraction, was a significant disappointment We paid in excess of $100+ for an arcade card, only to find that many of the games our children specifically wanted to play were either broken or out of service. As a result, we were forced to waste credits on alternative games simply to use the balance, and we were not offered any refund or credit. What made this situation particularly frustrating was the complete lack of customer service staff available to address malfunctioning machines or assist guests. For the prices charged, this is unacceptable and gives us serious pause about future patronage, especially considering the sizable group of friends and family who traveled with us and typically rely on our recommendations. Overall Impact These combined issues significantly impacted our stay and absolutely influences whether we would ever consider returning or recommending this property to others. Cleanliness, safety, and basic functionality are fundamental expectations, particularly at a family-oriented resort.

I enjoyed the food and waterpark. Staff was pleasant and extremely helpful. Wonderful time and great room. Everything was perfect for the kids. The kids enjoyed all the games, food, and activities.

DO NOT STAY HERE We came down to go to the waterpark. The waterpark itself was nice but it seems like that is where this place decided to pour all of its money. The hotel room was disgusting. From the moment we got off the elevator we were horrified. The carpet was covered in stains. The exit signs in the hallway were broken and dangling from the wires. There was mold on the ceiling of the bathroom. There were red stains on the walls of the bathroom. The curtains were covered In stains. The beds didn’t have fitted sheets, just a loose sheet over top of an old mattress. Whenever we plugged our chargers into the outlets all of the lights in the room flickered. At one point there was even a person sleeping in the hallway outside of our room. This place is awful. Avoid at all costs. We left after the first night of our two night stay because we were so bummed out.
