Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Disappointing and chaotic!!! During my weekend stay, elevators were malfunctioning. People waited for elevators for 45 minutes to an hour - just to get to the lobby. Seniors were trying to walk downstairs with their walkers and canes. My husband and I walked from the 12th floor to the main floor with our large bags. We were happy we weren’t on a higher floor. Management was oblivious to the situation or just didn’t care. Once we got downstairs, I informed the manager. She was clueless. Hotel guests were left to manage the situation alone. The room we stayed in had no microwave no coffee machine, no blanket on the bed, only 2 hangers, and poor lighting. The hotel bar sucked. We will not stay at showboat again. The staff were really nice and friendly. My experience is not a reflection on them. The hotel has poor management.

Pass Hotel needs torn down or major renovations. It's clear no money is being put into the property and I paid $520 for a room that had broken light bulbs in it.

elevator disappointment The stay was good but the elevators was very inconvenient because my husband is a senior citizen and we had to walk down 11 flights of steps.
