Atlantic City, New Jersey: Casinos and Carnival Rides Lining Historical Beachside Boardwalk

No trip to Atlantic City is complete without a stroll along its signature boardwalk, which stretches for 6 miles along New Jersey's eastern coast. Originally built in 1870 to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, the boardwalk grew in popularity as a place where you could drink and gamble during Prohibition without much trouble from the police, as depicted in HBO's Boardwalk Empire. The boardwalk is still popular for its casinos, but it's family-friendly, too; visitors are just as inclined to sit at the beach or stop at one of the many carnival rides.

On the boardwalk, it's worth it to check out the Absecon Lighthouse, which is more than 150 years old. It's possible to climb its 228 steps to the top, which features sweeping views of the city skyline and the sea.

Great price but not worth it if you want all elevators and ice machines to be operational. Although the room was clean and the front desk friendly, I was disappointed with the quality of services. There was only one elevator working on our first day and then only two on our second day. The lines and wait time were ridiculous and led to overcrowding. Additionally, I was disappointed that there wasn’t a blow dryer or coffee pot in the room and the ice machines were broken.

Do Not Stay Here! I am writing to formally complain about my most recent stay at the Showboat Hotel. I had paid for two rooms. Due to unpleasant and unacceptable conditions that made it impossible to remain at the property, we stayed one night and canceled our stay. From the moment we arrived, the experience was extremely unpleasant. The hallway outside our room had an overwhelming and foul odor—so strong that we had to cover our noses every time we entered or exited our room to reach the elevator. The odor seeped into our room, making it uncomfortable and unsanitary to remain there. The hotel itself was visibly dirty and poorly maintained. Compounding these issues, multiple elevators were not working properly, causing long waits and making it difficult to navigate the property. This added to an already frustrating and uncomfortable stay. In addition, the entire hotel was freezing. We were forced to wear winter coats, hats, and gloves throughout the property, which is completely unreasonable for a paid hotel stay. When I reported these issues to the front desk and informed them that we were checking out early because of the conditions, the response I received was dismissive. The front desk attendant stated, “You do know it’s 17 degrees out.” Regardless of the outside temperature, guests should not be freezing inside the hotel they are paying to stay in. To further compound the situation, there was no soap in the bathroom soap dispensers, which is a basic expectation for cleanliness and guest safety. In addition to our original room, we had paid for an additional room for Saturday night. Due to the conditions described above, we were unable to use this room as well and left the property early. This was not my first stay at the Showboat. I have stayed at your property four times, and unfortunately, each visit has progressively worsened. This most recent experience fell far below acceptable hospitality standards and left us no choice but to leave early. Due to these circumstances, I have sent 2 written complaints to the Showboat to discuss my stay. I have yet to receive any type of response from the Showboat. I hope management takes this complaint seriously, as this experience was extremely disappointing.

RUN!!! Just a roadside motel with hotel space Pictures are completely misleading! If these are the renovated rooms - I can’t even fathom what the old ones are, this is the most disgusting run down place. My room had some sort of splatter on the wall, sheets had holes. 3 of 6 elevators work & they take upwards of 10+ mins if they’re not full, we had to take the stairs which led to a deserted section of the hotel. Thee entire “hotel” was cold! The audacity to charge a resort fee, room wasn’t ready or entirely cleaned! The waterpark another disaster
