Silverton, Oregon: Gateway to Gardens and Waterfalls

“Oregon’s Garden City” is a fitting title for Silverton, a small community about 14 miles northeast of Salem. It’s home to The Oregon Garden, an 80-acre site with more than 20 specialty gardens dedicated to showing off the beauty and botanical bounty of the Pacific Northwest. Visitors come to stroll the landscaped paths, see the Frank LLoyd Wright–designed Gordon House, and attend events held throughout the year.

Silverton is also considered the gateway to Silver Falls State Park, a system of trails, historical buildings, and waterfalls set in the foothills of the Cascade Range mountains. Hike the Trail of Ten Falls to see mossy glens and a 100-foot waterfall.

Back in town, you’ll find the Palace Theatre. Built in 1936, it’s the best place to watch newly released films in an old-fashioned setting. You’ll also find a host of local boutiques and restaurants.
