Property at a Glance: Skamania Lodge

Skamania Lodge takes its name from a Chinook word meaning “swift water.” The moniker is appropriate—the hotel overlooks the Columbia River Gorge. There's a high concentration of waterfalls here, including the country's fifth-highest. The lodge is situated on 175 wooded acres and surrounded by beautiful natural attractions. It serves as both a place to find solitude and a home base for hiking, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and many other recreational activities. It’s also surrounded by history—the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail is nearby, and Mount St. Helens is about a 60-mile drive away.

  • Admire forest views in your superior or fireplace-equipped fireside room.
  • Cozy up with a book in front of a towering stone fireplace in the lodge, whose architecture ropes in Montana slate, local rock, and natural and reclaimed timber.
  • Upscale dining options: Fodor's writes that the onsite "restaurants are some of the top dining experiences in the region." Columbia River steelhead and other regional dishes are on the menu at Skamania's award-winning Cascade Dining Room, while lighter dishes and shared plates take the spotlight at River Rock restaurant.
  • Take a refreshing dip in the indoor swimming pool (limited capacity)

Stevenson, Washington: Laid-Back Riverfront Town amid Massive Forest Preserve

A small, scenic town on the Columbia River Gorge, Stevenson was once a humble logging community. It has since evolved into a renowned year-round destination. Many visitors are drawn to Gifford Pinchot National Forest, an outdoor wonderland spread across 1.3 million acres where you can go fishing, hiking, biking, and picnicking.

The Columbia River Gorge is set amid the Cascade Range volcanoes, including Mount Hood, which is located about an hour away. It's Oregon's tallest peak and also home to the Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort.

We ended up with a river view room which I was super happy about. Staff was great, room was clean. We loved getting a drink at the bar then going out to the lawn and watching the sunset. We also watched the sunrise over the river right from the room. We used the fitness room, the putting course, and enjoyed one of the one site hiking trails.

Beautiful resort, stunning setting Beautiful property, expansive set against stunning background. The treehouse where we stayed was fun and different, well equipped and unique. Staff is very friendly and helpful, with people going out of their way to welcome and assist guests. A fun stay overall. One word of caution- the train tracks and a crossing are located quite close to the treehouses and as such you can hear train honking every 45-60 min at all hours of the day and night which can be an issue for light sleepers.

Beautiful Property and Outstanding Service at Skamania Lodge I stayed at Skamania Lodge recently for a wedding for someone I consider family—my best friend’s son—and I have to say, the whole experience was wonderful. First off, the property is gorgeous. Even though it was 98 degrees during my stay, the views and grounds were beautiful. My room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The lodge is big—almost gave me a Vegas resort kind of feel—but that wasn’t a bad thing, just something I noticed. From the moment I arrived, the staff really stood out. My first interaction was with Dan in the concierge area (not the main check-in desk). He was friendly, helpful, and told me exactly where the wedding cake needed to be delivered and who to talk to. Later, the groom’s grandmother asked me about leaving her cakes with the lodge. I spoke with April at the front desk, and she couldn’t have been nicer. She explained that they typically only hold wedding cakes, but she said that she would take care of it. She was sweet, patient, and genuinely kind. Mary, the banquet captain, deserves a big shout out too. My best friend and I were the main contacts for the wedding, so I was constantly checking in with her, asking questions, and making requests. She handled it all with a smile and never made me feel like I was bothering her. I even had to decorate the wedding cake with flowers, and she jumped right in to help. It turned what could’ve been a stressful moment into something fun. I also have to mention the bartender (I didn’t catch her name). It was sweltering that day and the bar was packed, but she stayed friendly, patient, and kept everything moving. Overall, my stay was fantastic. The lodge itself is beautiful, but it’s the people—Dan, April, Mary, and the bartender—who really made it memorable. I’d absolutely stay here again.

Rooms and housekeeping lacking Lodge is lovely but the rooms are standard at best with NO amenities Housekeeping is a real problem . They change linens/towels and clean every 3 days (which seems crazy) unless you notify them before 8 am which I did but our room still was not done . The grounds are beautiful and the staff is friendly
