Mountain high service at the Snowbird The staff here at Snowbird Mountain Lodge was incredible. They were always attentive and attempting to provide the best service ever. This extended into the onsite restaurant. Every meal exceeded expectations. The chef was creative and accommodating to special dietary needs. I highly recommend your booking time at this lodge.

A Serene Escape at Snowbird Mountain Lodge We initially booked a hotel in Gatlinburg for our Smoky Mountains trip, but found the town too hectic for our taste. It wasn’t the serene nature escape we were hoping for. Luckily, we discovered Snowbird Mountain Lodge. Perched on a mountaintop in the secluded Nantahala Forest, this charming 1940s lodge was exactly what we needed. The moment we drove up the steep road, we knew we had found our haven. Corey greeted us warmly, making us feel instantly at home. Our room in the main lodge was small, cozy, and rustic, with the delightful scent of chestnut wood. It was impeccably clean, and the linens were fresh. Dinner that evening was a delightful four-course meal, with each dish being fresh and delicious. The next morning, we woke up to a breathtaking view of misty mountains and clouds still sleeping between the peaks. The only sound was the forest slowly waking up, no cars or motors for miles around. Pure perfection! Breakfast was delicious, and we were also provided with a backpack containing our lunch and supplies for a day out in the park. We enjoyed every moment in the Lodge and wished we could have stayed longer. We will be back! Thank you, Corey and Arin, for your wonderful hospitality, for meeting all our needs, and for making us feel at home.

An Earthly Paradise Snowbird Mountain Inn has always been a unique and very special place for us. Set on a ridge overlooking the beautiful peaceful mountains, it is surrounded by National Forest lands as well as Cherokee lands which makes it seem like an earthly paradise of serenity. Staying in one of the private cottages with a balcony offers a true getaway, especially when this is couples with the wonderful breakfasts and dinners in the inn, as well as a sack lunch to facilitate exploring the area. The Inn provides kayaks and paddle boards at its Santeetlah Lake access, a short distance from the lodge. The property has always been owned by people who were passionately devoted to its remote charm and who have worked to improve and maintain it. This may present a financial challenge at times, owing to relatively small number of rooms and the remote location. The new owners have made very few changes to the property since its long time owner, Robert Rankin departed. We can only hope the new owners remain dedicated to preserving the inn for years to come. It is such a privilege to stay there and the new staff and manager, JR, are very dedicated and enthusiastic. We look forward to our return in the October.

Nice place...exactly as advertised. Unique, or at least pretty unique, we loved it. We wanted peace and quiet, and not have to go looking for restaurants. The drive in was tedious because road crews had apparently removed some road signs, so we missed NC 143; but we got there. We stayed in a room in the main lodge...comfortable, quiet, clean. Our room was slightly larger than some others and we liked that very much. Ask for the larger rooms. We went for a hike (restrained hike...both over 80) which was great fun but also aggravated by no signage around. And we drove to Fontana dam, which is interesting, and the drive there and back was beautiful. The only disappointing feature was the restaurant in the lodge, and you might not notice if you were there one or two nights. The menu is limited. Food was good, sort of, but not thrilling. Bartender is jolly and eager to please. Breakfast was pedestrian but as expected. The library is lovely, comfortable, relaxing and very well stocked. I found a lot of interesting things in there, and we played scrabble and had our cocktails there in the afternoon. Big plus! We thought all the staff were friendly, accommodating, attentive. That was very important to us. The drive from Asheville is about hour and 45 min, and, for the last 45 min. challenging for a city kid.

We will not be back We have spent 15 anniversaries at Snowbird Mountain Lodge, since 2003. This year was our 45th Anniversary, and our first visit since the Indigo Corporate group purchased the lodge. Unfortunately, we will not be returning due to the complete lack of customer service, and warm hospitality that we have always found at Snowbird. We never saw the General Manager during our 4 day stay! He/she did not greet us at dinner, or ask about our stay, or seem to be on property at all. There was a skeleton crew, with one person attempting to serve breakfast, and it was a holiday weekend! The Front Desk was unmanned most of the time during our 3-night stay over the 4th of July holiday. In the past we have always had an anniversary card with chocolates in our room at check-in, and a candle stuck in our dessert at dinner. Even though I noted it was our 45th anniversary, not one staff member acknowledged our special day. For the first time ever, we saw many empty rooms, and there were only about 25 lodge guests at the 4th of July BBQ, which strangely was not held until July 6th. So many amenities were missing, including the wonderful logo Snowbird soap, lotion, and shampoo. The Gift Shop seemed to be going out of business, and no longer stocked the gift sets of soap I always purchased to take home. Instead there were odd items like 2XL Snowbird chef's coats, and department store bed sheet sets. The dinner menu, which always changed every day, is now a fixed menu, with many substitutions. Our soup was luke-warm, and there was a huge lag between the salad and the entree each night. The peach shortcake was made with canned peaches! The beautiful water feature in the dining patio is gone, and the soothing water features on the grounds are no longer operational. The gas fire in the Summer House was not working, and the hammock chairs were gone. Our backpack lunch was missing a sandwich, (which fortunately we caught before we left for a day of hiking) and when I finally tracked down the Front Desk a sandwich was made, but the dressing was left off. The next day our turkey sandwiches, were accompanied by packaged Ken's ranch dressing, rather than a homemade spread as in the past. Our room needed dusting, there were spider webs, and there were hairs on the bathroom floor. The first day, there was no hot water for a shower. Snowbird has always been a refuge where we could enjoy nature and count on great food and hospitality in a laid-back setting. Unfortunately, it is now an over-priced corporately-owned hotel, lacking all of the things that once made it so special.
