At 14,000 feet tall, Snowmass Village feels massive. The mountain lies directly behind Snowmass Village, and there is ski-in/ski-out access to many of the town’s shops, restaurants, and hotels. The village itself is chockfull of art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants that serve up farm-to-table cuisine and cocktails. Also worth a visit is the Ice Age Discovery Center. It has fossilized mammoths and mastodons, which were unearthed during a construction project in 2010.
Snowmass Village is only a 10-mile drive from Aspen, which boasts a historic downtown area lined with red-brick buildings housing upscale boutiques and fine-dining restaurants. You can find a number of art galleries and museums here, too, including the Aspen Art Museum. This gallery-like space hosts contemporary art exhibits, activities, and lectures from local and international artists. The Wheeler Opera House, situated in the middle of downtown Aspen, is also worth a visit. Built in 1889, it’s now used as a venue for movies and concerts.
