Cabo San Lucas, Mexico: Watersports, White-Sand Beaches, and Festive Parties

Located at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico and 10 degrees below the Tropic of Cancer, Cabo San Lucas enjoys pleasant year-round temperatures. Just south of town, the white-sand Lover’s Beach (or Playa del Amor) stretches alongside the Sea of Cortez and is frequented by sea lions, and, depending on the season, humpback whales. It’s a popular spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, and swimming. Tour boats and water taxis regularly zip from Cabo to Lover’s Beach and the neighboring El Arco, an arch-shaped granite rock formation that has become Cabo’s unofficial symbol.

Surrounding the marina waterfront, downtown Cabo buzzes 24 hours a day with visitors sampling local tequilas and fresh, grilled seafood. Slip into one of the trendy restaurants near the marina to try chicharrones—fried pork rinds—and chiles en nogada—poblano chilis topped in a walnut cream sauce. The tourist district is also filled with nightclubs and cantinas catering to every kind of visitor, whether they’re looking for conga lines or jazz tunes.

Service was superb and food outstanding. We never saw the chocolate covered strawberries or wine. Our room did not have a pull out sofa as advertised but that was not a problem. We didnt have hot water, we had cold showers. But we never said anything to management. There was a miscommunication about us having lunch while waiting for the shuttle and they did not include it in the “all inclus

Family Trip The Solar is a great resort! It is smaller in size which is nice for getting around. If you want variety in restaurants, you can go to the Grand Solmar next door. We tried the two restaurants at Solmar and they were good. Solmar wasn't crowded with spring breakers which was nice!! Quick $10 taxi ride to the marina. Louis was the activities coordinator and he was amazing!! He is super friendly and helpful. My 7 year old loved joining the activities. We didn't do the all inclusive because we went out for multiple meals. I think if we had more kiddos with us we would have done the all inclusive. You cannot bring your own alcohol to the pool unless you pour it in a to go cup.

THE LITTLE RESORT THAT COULD AND DID This is the little resort that "COULD". The proximity to town cannot be beat...the natural landscape and whales so close were an added bonus... YES it is small and YES the rooms are dated...but the suites are spacious and always clean...LETY made sure of that everyday...the grounds are well kept and really easy to roam... Only a few restaurants...WHO CARES...the food was really good day in and day out with a whole host of options for really any palate...we've vacationed in many resorts before and this was the most consistent dining experience across the board for every meal we had... The adult pool was spectacular when you wanted to get away from the spring breakers...which my kids did not but us oldies did... THE SERVICE...I cannot say enough from Christian at the main gates to Luis at the conceirege everyone was more than helpful and always friendly... Daniel, Christian and Berny at the the POOLSIDE Bar were amazing everyday...drinks were plentiful and tasty... Now for the staff at the main restaurant...Alix, Susy, Lili, Jesus, Salvador, Tavo, Eric and most ESPECIALLY MISAEL were exceptional humans...the service was 5 star these people went out of their way to make you comfortable and want for nothing...even with a swarm of drunken college kids forever wanting more...from planning special meals to always having a smile on their faces the staff of the Solmar go above and beyond... I have absolutely no regrets in choosing the sweet little slice of heaven...the 9 days spent here were incredible...and we most definitely will return...
