Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains: Downhill Skiing and Historical Towns

The Poconos region of northeastern Pennsylvania accounts for some 2,400 square miles of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and forests. The area has been a popular vacation destination ever since Pennsylvania Quakers opened a hotel here on the Delaware River in 1829. Today, the Poconos draw more than 25 million annual visitors, thanks to year-round recreational opportunities and spectacular natural scenery.

In winter, locals often make weekend trips from Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York, and DC for one reason: skiing. One ski spot that's particularly popular is Camelback Mountain Resort, which sits atop one of the region’s tallest mountains and boasts 160 acres of skiable terrain. For an extended run, head to the Nile Mile, which drops 800 feet vertically over the course of a mile-long descent. The resort is also amply lit for night skiing, and is the only place in the Poconos with a halfpipe. After you're done hitting the slopes, take time to explore the handful of little towns nestled in the mountains. You'll find boutique wine galleries and historical mansions, including the late 19th-century Asa Packer Mansion.

BigThanks to Director of Operations! Brianna from front desk is amazing. She totally went the extra mile. Rooms are perfect for couples or family! So quiet and peaceful before summer season... Love it here!

Willowbrook I suspect lengthy wait for check in is intended to ware guests down. There is a $27 per night activities fee. I knew this. Others may object. It takes at least 15 minutes to check in. That's each guest. I think they intentionally prolong the process so we throw our hands up. The grounds are not bad. The Willow Brook unit I stayed in was in OK shape, but the kitchens are yet to be redone. Bathrooms too. WiFi is good, but there is no basic cable, only streaming.

DO NOT BOOK HERE! I booked a reservation 3 months in advance for one night and they charged me in full upon booking. A few days later, I found out I had a conflicting business trip for the same day as the reservation. I went to cancel the reservation and they asked for a reason- I provided the reason. They came back and refused my refund, and said I had to provide proof from my supervisor (LOL) that I was going to be traveling for work and would not be able to make the trip to Split Rock (see screen shot of the email they sent). TOTALLY INSANE!!!! DO NOT book here out or principle. I also heard the resort is crappy and horrible to boot, so spare yourself the trouble! I ended up getting my refund, but it took weeks of trying with email until finally I called. I was so upset, I threatened to take legal action, and I would have!

Save your money, this place needs to be demolished. Please save you money and go elsewhere. This place was by far the worst resort we have ever stayed in. Besides the beautiful front lobby and the one restaurant the rest of the resort is disgusting. The room has numerous issues, Heater not working, A worker actually told us to turn the oven on and leave the door open to heat the room. Wallpaper was peeling, ceiling had repairs that look like a 1st grader did them. No pots or dishes in the kitchen, no paper towels or dish soap in the kitchen either. One bed had hairs on it and another had a blood stain. New bed clothes were provided but they didn't have someone to makeup the beds. Water park was not operational, and we were not warned prior to our visit. the Game room was a joke, several pool tables had torn felt and the bumpers were distorted and bent over. Movie theatre had seats that didn't recline and everything was dirty. Elevators were out of order for most of the week and we were on the third floor and had children. i felt sorry for the Front desk workers because all week they had to deal with furious guests. This place needs a few million dollars in upgrades or needs to be torn down. We actually left one night to stay in another local resort for two days and checked out early.
