Roanoke, West Virginia: Bass Fishing and Boating

In the heart of West Virginia sits Stonewall Jackson Lake; it’s a tranquil scene with lush green mountains and miles of hiking trails. The site is so picturesque it inspired Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park to spring up around it, as well as a resort. The lake, which is now known for its booming population of largemouth bass, attracts fishermen, boaters, and kayakers. The town is also home to an Arnold Palmer Signature golf course that the Washington Post calls “knock-you-back-on-your-heels beautiful.” The area is close to major metro areas including Pittsburgh, Columbus, Washington D.C., and Cleveland, but still feels secluded and remote.

A little frayed around the edges. The rooms are showing their age. They need to be redone. The bathroom was of particular concern. If you get a government discount the room might be worth the price paid. Certainly not at full price. It used to be much nicer.

Worth a stay A lovely place to spend a night. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The bed was very comfortable. The shower hot. The grounds are beautiful and there’s tons of things to do. Sit by the fire, swim, play yard games. The carpets and some of the room features look very worn, but overall it’s a wonderful place to stay in a good value for the price. We stayed here on our way to Kentucky and on our return. It did not disappoint at all. Thank you!

Lovely Location Really nice resort. Pretty, well maintained grounds. Sunrise is stunning and lots of places to walk. Pool was lovely but only 3 chairs in the inside section. Room and bed was comfortable, quiet and dark. Good shower. Our TV did not work. Someone was to come fix it. Never showed up when we reported it or the next morning. Disappointing. Ate at TJ Muskies and had a very good meal. Only odd thing was different menus for different tables. Looked like some folks were given the option to order off the Stillwater’s menu. Overall it was a very nice stay and we’d probably go back.
