Treasure Island, FL: Sun-Soaked Shores With a Storied Past

A coastal gem steeped in legend and sunshine, Treasure Island, Florida, lives up to its evocative name with pristine white sand beaches stretching nearly four miles along the Gulf of Mexico. Located in Pinellas County just west of St. Petersburg, this barrier island blends the nostalgic charm of Old Florida with a vibrant, contemporary spirit. Its name harks back to a clever 1915 marketing ploy when property developers claimed to uncover hidden chests of gold—an imaginative tale that still adds a layer of intrigue to this sun-drenched enclave. Today, its boardwalks, beach bars, and sunset vistas continue to lure travelers seeking both serenity and stimulation along Florida’s legendary Gulf Coast.

Treasure Island’s identity is inseparable from its waterfront culture and community legacy. The island is home to quiet residential neighborhoods, eclectic shops, and events that reflect its deep ties to regional heritage. Not far from the bustle of Tampa Bay, it offers a relaxed pace of life underscored by warm hospitality and an enduring connection to the sea. From annual sand sculpture festivals that draw international artists to fishing piers that recall generations of coastal living, Treasure Island captures the soul of a place that treasures both its natural gifts and the stories that shaped its name.

Run down Hotel Stayed at the Sunset Vistas from 7/18-7/21, total of 3 nights. Stayed in 1 room with family (total of 4 people). Total price was over $1800. This price was ridiculous. Over $300 per night per couple. NO maid service. No clean towels. No garbage emptied. 2nd bedroom had full size bed, no queen. TV in 2nd bedroom was 19". No "guide" on TV remotes, took forever to find a channel. Shower water pressure was non-existent. Room was in much need of upgrade. Pool was overcrowded with kids screaming and splashing. Entire premises needed upgrade. Would not recommend to anyone. Look elsewhere. Would NEVER stay there again.

Great location but needs serious attention We just returned from a week at Sunset Vistas. This was our 2nd year staying here in a gulf view suite. I called and asked to stay in the same unit as last and to have a travel crib placed in the room. At checkin- given a room on the south side (not what I requested) and no travel crib. The furniture was filthy, worn and stained. Broken tile, broken fixtures and cabinets falling apart. We did our best to look beyond the physical condition of the room but after doing laundry in the in unit machines and having black streaks and some items with small tears- I was livid. 3 out of the 5 elevators were out of service and the remaining 2 were excessively hot and smelled- flooring in one was noticeably in need of repair. The pool is large but not once did we see anyone skimming the pool ( prior year the pool was serviced almost daily before opening) and the water had a continuous mix of bugs, debris, and sunscreen floating on the surface by the stairs. We could scratch the “film” off the tile pool surround at the water line with our fingers. Very disappointed this time around and will not be returning to this “resort”.

A real treasure Great Place to bring the Family, super fun, friendly staff. I’d love to visit here again. Bring a snorkel and sun block. Go right from the AC to the beach in 30 seconds. Right next to John’s Pass. Watch for shells, ocean life and palm trees! I’ve cream on every corner and great food all around.

Nightmare Stay! Returning customer. The place must be under new management. No one cares anymore. Been going here for the past 3 years the first two were great. Came back for a wedding. Ours and 3 other rooms were rented under our recommendations. Couldn’t check in till almost 5pm. Cleaning was reason for late check in. Got to the room and it was not cleaned at all. Garbage and dirt on floor bathrooms were filthy. Bed sheets had hair and bodily fluid on them. Curtains have large blood spot on them. Extra large toenail found in washing machine. Couches and chairs so filth stained with grease no one in my party would sit anywhere but on corner of bed. The front desk person even agreed our situation was “mortifying “. Front desk manager goes out of her way to bother you to “touch base” but fails to provide any kind of service besides saying she is touching base. After 2 days of explaining the room was unsatisfactory living conditions we were told we would be moved but need to be out by 11am we explained we could not because of the food we purchased for the week. That information was not relayed to cleaning staff who knocks on door every ten minutes. After about the 5th time another worker knocked on door again and said the other cleaning person was upset because hotel was yelling at them for not cleaning room we were still in. This experience was beyond horrible and the management doesn’t seem to care. Tons of tons of beautiful hotels and places to stay all over this area. Do yourself and favor and go to one that still cares about its customers. I’m still waiting to hear from front desk manager and have a call to general manager neither are responding. So when you see the reply’s here just know they are only trying to look good online.
