San Diego, California: Electric Nightlife and Historical Attractions

San Diego’s sunny, comfortably warm weather and 70 miles of coastline have long attracted out-of-towners, but the city’s inland scene is no slouch, either. The Gaslamp Quarter is arguably the trendiest listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The area forms both the historic center of town and a hub of nightlife, with nearly 100 Victorian-era buildings occupied by high-end boutiques and gourmet restaurants.

A stroll through iconic Balboa Park takes you past 17 museums, as well as the world-famous San Diego Zoo. There’s also the vibrant Spanish Village Art Center, a living gallery where local artists produce pottery and oil paintings. In Old Town, shops in Mission-style stucco buildings sell colorful woven baskets and maracas. Nearby stands the Whaley House Museum, dubbed one of the Most Terrifying Places in America by the Travel Channel. Ghosts of former residents are said to inhabit the rooms, which are filled with Victorian furniture and eerie dolls.

Awesome service!!! This is not exactly for the hotel but for the staff. While going surfing out front of the hotel stashed my key fob in the hood of my car. When I got back to get it I accidentally knocked the down into my engine like a total kook, locking me out of my car with nothing but my wetsuit. I tried prying into the hood but to no avail. I walked over to the hotel to see if their Maintanance Man had any tools. Their man, Jehrich R came out like a superhero. He first helped try to get the key with his tools and when we both couldn’t reach it he went an extra step and contacted AAA. He checked up on me and made sure I made it out ok. Just a solid guy. I’m giving this place full marks for the front desk crew and Jehrich in particular. BIG THANKS!!!

Don’t waste your money Disgusting is the word to describe the Sunset Suite. We booked last minute due to VRBO flooding. There was stains on the nasty old carpet, no AC in the living room/kitchen, stains on patio, blood stains on pillow case and smell was horrible. The only good thing was the friendly staff that has to put up with angry guests. Manager and desk staff was very patient and understanding. You know it’s bad if they have to leave you a bottle of ODOBAN! Shame on corporate to not update the rooms to make it livable. I would not stay here for free, let alone for $1700 a night. Shame on them for charging guests what they do to take advantage of the location. Other guests were complaining to us too. So I know it’s not just the sunset suite that was disgusting. There are better options on the beach for the same price. Attaching some pictures from our visit. At least we were able to check out the next day and get a refund for remaining days. We booked another hotel a block away.

Great Location! The hotel is in the middle of the action on Pacific Beach. This was our 3rd time staying here and have only stayed in ocean view rooms. We really enjoy sitting on the balcony and watching the ocean and watching people go by on the ocean front walk. The restaurant adjacent, World Famous, is really good. So, the hotel is older, not fancy by any means, but it is clean. And the staff is always very friendly and helpful. This stay, we were impressed by Lillian at the front desk. She was obviously busy but took the time to greet us warmly and patiently went through the check in process. On our first day we usually have a few questions and simple requests like more washcloths, coffee, etc and Lillian was very helpful and provided excellent customer service, which added to the overall enjoyment of our stay. I recommend Surfer Beach hotel as a great choice for a stay at Pacific Beach.
