Gatlinburg, Tennessee: Charming Artists’ Village amid Great Smoky Mountains

Gatlinburg rests near Tennessee’s eastern border, less than 3 miles from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Here, you can hike more than 100 trails that wind past waterfalls and pioneer-era log cabins tucked deep within densely forested mountains. Or, take a bicycle ride on the 11-mile loop through Cades Cove, a broad valley of open meadows where you can see deer, black bears, and wild turkeys. Clingmans Dome, the park’s highest point of elevation at 6,643 feet, is a great place to catch the sunset.

Gatlinburg’s main attraction is probably the artists’ loop. It comprises more than 100 craft shops, studios, and cafés, and you can watch artisans as they hand weave baskets and whittle wooden figurines. Downtown Gatlinburg itself is a mountain village filled with old-fashioned ice-cream shops and boutiques selling housemade jams and decorative gewgaws.

It was cozy... very friendly front desk. Close walk to attractions. Not much for breakfast. But for price ,can't complain.

A family friendly place to stay: Belle Aire Motel Nice place to stay walking distance to attractions, free parking, decent wifi, clean rooms, hard beds, good hot showers with good pressure and affordable rates. The only downfall is one of the pictures on-line show coffee and krispy-kream donuts in the lobby but this motel only serves coffee in the lobby in the mornings but the Log cabin restaurant is right next door and they serve the best breakfast in Gatlinburg. Motel is surrounded by area churches for Sunday services and in a safe neighborhood. Motel staff is awesome, two daughters aiming to please, excellent concierge's very knowledge with area attractions and great places to eat and explore.

Bad Bad Bad.... Stay away.... This was a great motel last year. It appears they have done nothing to keep up the place. The electrical was shot in room 103 the GFI plug would not stay set and the plug by the bed was so loose I had to hold my wife's hairdryer plug in place while she used it. The light in the bathroom/shower area had to be switched on and off several times to get it to come on. The front door weather strip was so worn you could see daylight under and around the door. This would not have been so bad if the heat halfway worked. The towels and wash cloths looked dirty so we went to Wal-Mart and bought some. The TV does not get any locals stations if you like football some of it comes on CBS. I ended up watching the SEC championship game on my phone. Do yourself a favor and move along this one is a bad stay. Not so bad at the weekday price of $66 per night but then they jack it up to $188 for the weekend. Those are the cons the pros are the mini fridge worked great and it did have a bed...

Don't stay there it is awful!! The rooms look nothing like the pictures. We were given a different room than we were supposed to have as well. They are filthy, with black mold in the shower/tub and the tub jets. The chair was stained and disgusting, as well as the carpet. Spider webs and dust and crumbs were everywhere and the drawers had a musty smell. Not to mention the microwave was dirty and had a burn mark in it. We asked for a different room and they said they were sold out , that they would refund us, and they didn't. I called the place we booked through to check on that and now they are telling them a different story.
