Waxahachie, Texas: Small-Town Charm South of Dallas

Situated on the southern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, the city of Waxahachie pairs its exurban location with the no-fuss charms of small-town Texas. Downtown, antique stores, cafes, and shops line the town square, where you can find the famed Ellis County Courthouse. With its Romanesque turrets and spires, the stately complex looks more like an Old-World palace than a center of civic administration. Just 2 miles south of here sits Lake Waxahachie, which often hums with the activity of jet skis, motorboats, and other aquatic pursuits.

Waxahachie is the crape myrtle capital of Texas, and celebrates the brilliant pink blooms each year during the Crape Myrtle Festival around the Fourth of July. In April and May, part of the town transforms into a bustling village from Merrie England with interactive shows and performances during the Scarborough Renaissance Festival.

This is a great, relaxing B&B. Bed was comfortable, British theme was charming, and sitting by the fire reading a book was refreshing. And the breakfasts totally hit the spot! Yum!

Charming and Comfortable A charming and comfortable place to stay as a family, we were in Waxahachie for our son's wedding. The owner is very attentive to your needs. The beds are great and the bathrooms spacious. We stayed on the second floor with other family members and enjoyed having coffee, tea and breakfast together each morning. We plan to return for a weekend to just enjoy the Waxahachie downtown area.

Froze during the night. This B&B run by a truly friendly guy, a retired attorney from Dallas. Took the time to explain our room and the B&B to us along with some interesting background stories. However! During the night I froze. Someone had the thermostat down so cold I couldn’t sleep. I don’t suffer from hot flashes and I’m disappointed there are those who are so insensitive to normal people. I have no desire to return here. Skip Parker. Richardson, TX.

Beautiful and comfortable historic B&B Had a wonderful experience at the English Merchant's Inn. The best way I would describe the in is "curated" - it is so beautifully decorated, with interesting furniture and decor that was a feast for the eyes, while still relaxing and comfortable. Warmly welcomed by the host, everything we needed for a great stay was at hand. Nice location in a quiet part of town, close to the center with restaurants and shops. There is quite a lot to see and explore in town. Highly recommend sitting on the porch at sunset soaking up the small town charm.
