Hotel at a Glance: The Faust Hotel

The Faust Hotel is a historic hotel from 1929 located above a brewery three blocks from the Comal River, one mile from Schlitterbahn New Braunfels, and six six-minute walk from the city's civic and convention centers.

Free Wi-Fi is provided, along with coffeemakers, microwaves, and minifridges in elegant, Art Deco-style rooms that have vintage furnishings. Sitting spaces and additional bathrooms are included in the suites.

American food and house-brewed beers are served in a ground-floor brewpub with a patio. There are additional meeting and function spaces available.

San Antonio’s Museum Reach: Riverwalk Extension Lined with Native Plants and Public Art

Lush terraces landscaped with native plants line Museum Reach, a 1.3-mile extension of the San Antonio River Walk. It was completed in 2009 as part of the city’s efforts to expand the popular riverwalk to a sprawling 15 miles. Pedestrian walkways run on either side of the river, passing whimsical public art installations—manmade caves and shimmering fish that seem to “float” underneath an overpass—and attractions along the way. You can easily walk, bike, or take a river taxi to the original riverwalk in downtown San Antonio.

The San Antonio Museum of Art, for which Museum Reach was named, occupies a prime spot along the riverwalk. Housed in the 1892 Lone Star Brewery, it displays one of the largest collections of ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art in the southern United States. Continue north to stroll through the old Pearl Brewery complex. The brewery dates back to 1883 and has been revitalized as a trendy dining-and-nightlife spot, containing the Culinary Institute of America's San Antonio campus and numerous restaurants, shops, and bars.

POOR PLANNING ON THEIR PART We have had a great trip planned to New Braunfels for months for the Christmas atmosphere in New Braunfels and Gruene. I just received an email telling me they are closing for renovations and my reservation is cancelled. Two and a half weeks before we arrive. No phone call, just a "sorry for the inconvenience" email. Who closes at Christmas for renovations? I am thinking money issues. Thanks Faust for ruing our trip.

Stay at this hotel! If I could give 10 stars for service I would. The customer service I received during my stay was incredible, and something you would never expect to see at any chain hotel. The staff could not do enough for me and I'm incredibly grateful to them. The room was also really clean and nice, for a reasonable price, and near plenty of things to do. Parking was also not an issue, there is a massive free public car park 1 minute walk away if their back yard is full.

I'd stay again! The perfect place for a mini staycay. The front desk ladies were so friendly and helpful. The rooms are small, but a queen was certainly enough for a solo traveler. Easy walking distance to downtown.

Always a Favorite As a fan of historic hotels, this one is one of the best. Since I prefer staying in a hotel with "personality" instead of a "cookie cutter" one that is the same all over the state, country or world, The Faust meets my desires. From the moment of entering the lobby, it is like being in a different time period. The lobby and the rooms are ones that are not found elsewhere. The rooms were clean, well arranged and comfortable. Don't let the window units for the AC fool you....our room was cool, just like we like it and the ceiling fans would have come in handy had we used them. The bed and linens were perfect and most comfortable. This was our second stay and we are looking forward to our next.
