A step up from a hostel, but not a big step. In a great location but rooms not in great condition. The Gallivant is right in the heart of Manhattan, in an absolutely prime location for any tourist looking to explore Times Square. The price of the rooms was reasonable by NYC standards, and they were happy to give us as many towels as we needed. Unfortunately, that's about where the pros stop and the cons start. The day we got to the hotel to check-in, the front desk clerk asked if we wanted to upgrade from a room with 1 queen bed to one with 2 twins. We agreed and paid more money, and they offhandedly mentioned to us that the heaters in the rooms were just replaced so it might look "unfinished" and that there could be holes in the wall next to it. We'd already paid at that point and my unfounded optimism made me think it couldn't be that bad if they were specifically placing us in this room as an upgrade from the previous one. I was wrong about that. See the pictures; not only were there holes and it needed to be painted, but there were frayed wires on the floor and the chair in the room was in a pretty bad state of disrepair. The walls in general needed to be repainted, one of the ceiling lights above our beds didn't work, and one of the lights in the bathroom that lights up the vanity mirror had to be left off because it would just flicker incessantly. Still, I could have overlooked all of that had it not been for the noise outside our room due to where the room was located. We were right across from the guest elevators and also off to our left was the staff elevator. The walls and door kept zero noise out, you could hear every little thing going on outside the room. The constant beeping from the two elevators out there was very annoying,. I put in headphones to drown it out, but the staff elevator or something else had some kind of alarm going off all night long during the second night we were there. It would go off for 10 minutes or so, then it would stop and start up again a few minutes later. It wasn't as loud as a fire alarm or anything, but I could hear it even with my headphones on which made it difficult to fall asleep. Overall, this place is just a bit better from a hostel by giving you a bathroom of your own. It doesn't hide that, I knew that going in, and that's okay with me. I'm fine with having a small space because I only intend to be there to sleep at night when I'm in NYC on vacation. But offering to upgrade our room to charge us more and then putting us in what was arguably one if the worst spots and in terrible condition was quite frustrating and I found myself wishing we'd just shared the queen bed if it would have meant no constant beeping. I want to make sure that I mention that my mom was able to get the extra money back that we paid for this "upgrade" after telling the staff about it wt the end of the trip (though they did act as if they'd forgotten about taking the charge off until my mom brought it up at check out to make sure they did ). I made this review in the hopes that they will expedite their renovations if they're planning on having guests stay in those rooms. If it weren't for the condition of the room and paper thin walls, it would probably be my go-to every time I go to NYC. Would I give it another chance? Maybe, because they gave us the extra money back, but unlikely. I'd rather have a good night's sleep next time, I think.

New York City, NY: The Ever-Beating Heart of American Ambition

Few cities command the world’s imagination quite like New York City—a metropolis that rises from the edge of the Atlantic as a towering emblem of resilience, reinvention, and raw energy. Home to over eight million people and the birthplace of countless cultural revolutions, NYC is a patchwork of distinct boroughs unified by an unyielding spirit. From the granite canyons of Manhattan to the creative pulse of Brooklyn and the storied enclaves of the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island, the city remains an unrivaled theater of dreams where every street corner hums with history, and every skyline silhouette evokes global admiration.

At once a financial powerhouse, artistic crucible, and political epicenter, New York City’s influence spans continents. It is where Broadway sets the stage for world-class theater, Wall Street dictates the tempo of markets, and the Statue of Liberty greets seekers of a better life with timeless grace. Its past is etched into landmarks like Ellis Island and the Empire State Building, while its future is written daily in the innovation hubs of Silicon Alley and the academic halls of Columbia and NYU. In New York, every block tells a story—and every story, no matter how improbable, finds a place to unfold.

Great Location, but do not expect 5 star amenities! Great location! This hotel was located inwalking distance of everything. However, please do not expect five star service or amenities. The hot water wasn't working one not and the astetics of the building needs upgrading. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The overnight security guard was ex The actual rooms are not that bad but they're not great either. The carpet in the hall should be removed immediatly because not only does it look bad, it also has a smell. Overall this was an affordable hotel to be in walking distance of everything like Times Square, Fith Ave, Radio City Music Hall, and Rockafeller, the smell and cold showers wern't that bad.
