Hotel at a Glance: The Glenerin Inn & Spa
Old-World charm is in every nook and cranny of The Glenerin Inn & Spa. Set on 2 acres of forested grounds, the Tudor-style stone mansion was built in the late 1920s and still retains many of its original features. Exposed wooden beams, antique chandeliers, and stained glass can be found throughout. A big stone fireplace in the sitting room gives the place a cozy feel. Both the mansion and the adjacent carriage house have heritage-building status. They’re connected via an underground walkway that’s especially convenient on cold days.
- Charming guest rooms feature contemporary design notes and free WiFi; large windows overlook the grounds.
- Included in this Getaway: breakfast for two, as well as two glasses of wine with the purchase of two entrees
- Savor steak-house fare such as broiled beef tenderloin or shrimp-and-scallop spaghetti in the dining room (reservations are recommended).
- Get pampered at the onsite spa, which offers sumptuous massages, body scrubs, and organic facials.
- History lesson: Since 1927, the estate has served alternately as a summer home, a school for girls, and a temporary place of worship for the Solel Synagogue.
Mississauga, Ontario: Walkable Toronto Suburb
Mississauga was originally developed as a southern suburb of Toronto, set right along the shores of Lake Ontario. As it grew, however, Mississauga quickly developed into a city in its own right, with lots of restaurants, shopping complexes, and year-round activities, such as those held at Celebration Square. During the summer, the square hosts outdoor concerts and festivals; in winter, visitors can go ice skating at a large open-air rink.
Just around the corner is Square One Shopping Centre, a sprawling complex with restaurants, retail shops, and a movie theater. Erin Mills Town Centre, another large shopping center, is a short drive away.
Walkability is one of Mississauga’s major draws. The city boasts numerous pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods, including the small downtown. Streetsville is an especially walkable neighborhood several miles from the city center. Its main drag is lined with charming cafés, restaurants, and day spas.
