Inn at a Glance: 1906 Pine Crest Inn

The 1906 Pine Crest Inn seems plucked from another time. The inn is one of only 325 members of the Select Registry Distinguished Inns of North America and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Its stone fireplaces, overstuffed leather chairs, and hardwood floors would be right at home in 1906—the year it was constructed. It offers individually decorated rooms and suites, as well as landscaped acres that feature elaborate flower gardens.

  • Eat locally: The onsite Carter’s Tavern & Wine Cellar relies on local, seasonal ingredients to create dishes that change daily; guests can dine on a complimentary breakfast every morning. Numerous restaurants within ¼-mile.
  • Sip wine at the inn’s Fox and Hounds Bar, which has won numerous Wine Spectator Best of Awards of Excellence for its more than 2,000 wines. The area is also home to numerous wineries.
  • Or craft beer, which is also well represented at the inn. In addition, over 100 local craft breweries and brewpubs are within a 45-minute drive.
  • Hike mountain trails at the nearby Foothills Equestrian Nature Center and Blue Ridge Parkway.

Tryon, North Carolina: Small Mountain Town with Abundant Hiking Trails and Golf Courses

You could walk from one end of Tryon to the other in a little more than a half hour. The Blue Ridge Mountains looming in the distance make the town feel even smaller. In the nearby foothills, you can take a quarter-mile hike to Pearson’s Falls, where water cascades down a 90-foot drop, and picnic on 268 acres of undeveloped forest. A few miles away is Foothills Equestrian Nature Center, which has horseback-riding trails through a sprawling nature preserve. Beyond these local trails, you’ll find fishing areas stocked with trout, as well as 10 golf courses. Other nearby activities include rafting and kayaking at Green River Adventures and the Gorge Zipline Canopy Adventure.

Tryon lies within a “thermal belt”—an area of the mountainside where freezing temperatures are less likely to occur. That means you can enjoy outdoor activities most of the year. Should winter or other foul weather rear its head, you can still find plenty to do. Tryon’s downtown is lined with bookstores, community theaters, and art galleries stocked with stained glass, leatherwork, and paintings by local artists.

We had a wonderful time! Rustic, cozy getaway. Close to Ashville and numerous other attractions. The staff treated us like royalty. Chef Johhny provided delicious food and Linda and Kim were outstanding as well! We will be going back again!!!

Paws up for 1906 Pine Crest Inn This was my second visit at this lovely inn, which is a wonderful option for those traveling with dogs. Beautiful property to walk a dog. Friendly, helpful staff. Unfortunately the scrumptious restaurant was closed on the second visit. Still, a winner

Bait and Switch Awful. Do not waste your money here. False advertising. The website should be taken down. No restaurant or bar as advertised. Run down. Musty rooms. The owners have let this place fall apart since they purchased it. I hope someone new will buy it and restore it to its glory days.

Do not enter. I made a reservation for the Stone Cottage. My cc was Immediately charged for the full night. I also immediately received a text that the gourmet breakfast was not available but a continental breakfast was. I was trying to be forgiving bc of COVID, etc. I started having doubts before leaving and contacted the b and b at night. There was an answering service. I then sent a text the next morning. I inquired about the wifi and the bar service. THERE IS NONE. This property is also for sale. I reached out to have my cc refunded. No response from the innkeeper.
