Hotel at a Glance: The Inn at Virginia Mason

Nestled in Seattle’s distinguished First Hill neighborhood, The Inn at Virginia Mason stands as a proud relic of the 1920s. Originally constructed as The Rhododendron Apartments, the property retains its classic crown moldings, elegant arched entryways, and the enduring spirit of its storied past. Over the decades, this historic structure has been thoughtfully transformed—from an apartment house to a European‑style boutique inn—while preserving the timeless charm that defines its character.

Today, the Inn harmoniously blends heritage and hospitality. It offers guests refined accommodations infused with modern comforts: cable television, complimentary Wi‑Fi, and in‑room coffeemakers. The terraced rooftop garden affords sweeping vistas of Seattle’s skyline, while proximity to Virginia Mason Hospital and downtown ensures convenience for both vacationers and those visiting loved ones. Here, every stay pays tribute to a rich architectural legacy and a proud local history.

Seattle, WA: Maritime Legacy Meets Modern Innovation

Seattle, perched between the Puget Sound and Lake Washington, is a city shaped as much by its natural surroundings as by its pioneering spirit. Once a booming timber town and the gateway to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush, Seattle rose to global prominence with its deep-water port, rich shipbuilding heritage, and connection to Pacific trade routes. Its iconic skyline, crowned by the Space Needle, speaks to a proud past of ambition—born from the 1962 World’s Fair—and a future forever anchored in innovation. Historic neighborhoods like Pioneer Square retain the city’s 19th-century character, while Pike Place Market continues its legacy as one of America’s oldest and most beloved farmers markets.

Today, Seattle thrives as a nexus of culture, commerce, and creativity. Home to global titans like Amazon and Microsoft, the city pulses with a tech-forward energy that coexists with a love for the outdoors, evidenced by its countless green spaces and mountain views. The vibrant districts of Belltown, Capitol Hill, and Ballard offer culinary artistry, indie music, and nightlife layered over historic architecture and maritime charm. Whether you’re wandering the waterfront, exploring the Museum of Pop Culture, or sipping small-batch coffee in a neighborhood café, Seattle offers a dynamic and distinctly Northwestern experience—rooted in history and driven by discovery.

Hotel did not look like the site pictures! Wow this place was not anything like the pictures on the site! If you can find the front entrance bend the fence and the paper signs that have folder over to the proped open side door with the questionable flooring. Check in late at night, no hotel parking. Walked 2 blocks away to find a unprotected lot. Then walk up a steep hill in the dark no lighting in the front entrance. The hospital next door did not help with the nosie level. The room and bathroom were very small and hard to move around in. The TV did not work and would not stay facing forward. Very outdated the bathroom very hard to get around in, did not use the tub shower. There was a second door in the closet shower area with a lock on it not sure how secure that was from the other room. We brush our teeth and slept there and left first thing in the morning did stay for the rest of the booking. Did not shower or use anything in the hotel. Do not stay there with children or anyone that has mobility issues. Seems like a bait and switch compared to the images on line!

Great place to stay. Great location. It was really nice to be inside of the hospital I had an early morning appointment and was able to go directly to my appointment and not be late. The convenience of being able to walk over to the hospital was really important. The room was really nice as well. The bed was comfortable and everything is updated. They also provided box fans to circulate the air since this is an older hotel and does not have air conditioning.

Quaint and cozy place! It's a cool old building (100 years old) clean, cozy, with friendly staff, and a quaint vibe. Rooms are not huge, and there is no ac, but fans were provided. It is pretty centrally located, and the best part was that they kept our luggage for free while we attended the Seahawks game.

Good enough but a bit scary. The location was fine in the daytime but the first night that I pulled up to the front door a psychotic man stopped my car in the street and yelled at us and pounded on the hood and windows screaming nonsense. I had to drive away and come back an hour later, and thankfully he was gone. Other than that terrifying ordeal, the room was small and the hotel is old but at least it was clean and the tv worked. I got a headache listening to the very loud AC unit from the hospital right outside my window.
