Breckenridge, Colorado: Former Mining Town with Famous Mountain Resort

Like many Colorado towns, Breckenridge started out as a mining town in the 19th century. Breckenridge remained prosperous longer than many of its neighbors. It was here, in fact, that miners found the largest gold nugget ever unearthed in Colorado. The 8-pound behemoth, known as “Tom’s Baby,” is on display at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

When the mines dried up, in came the skiers. Breckenridge Ski Resort, which opened in 1961, today encompasses five peaks and nearly 3,000 skiable acres. There’s still plenty to do off the slopes. Head to downtown Breckenridge, where the quaint Main Street is lined with carefully preserved Victorian-era buildings that now house art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants.

We had a great stay at the lodge! The room was beautiful. The hot tub was great to relax in and the view are superb! I will definitely stay here again! The only down side is that there is no pool and the work our facility was very outdated.

MUST GO!!! We had such a great view and experience! We asked for a mountain view room but it felt like we got a world view! You could see so far because of how high the lodge is up on the hill! It's clean, easy to get to, and the views speak for themselves. We would absolutely recommend staying here and hope to be back soon!

Beautiful views, less than desirable staff I was a vendor of a wedding last week and was really unimpressed with the event staff. It took multiple replies to hear back from the team only to find out that the person we had been working with had been let go and no one informed the couple (or vendors) of who else to get ahold of. They were curt when given feedback about this lack of communication. The team was sent information beforehand (like at any event), okay’d it a week ahead of time, then were unprepared as set up began. Was told that (despite confirming the timeline looking correct before) their standard policy was to have the ceremony space set two hours before the event, despite the timeline outlining hours earlier. Lastly, the parents of the bride were in tears due to the inconsistent communication, the multiple errors that were made, and the general lack of warm their received after having spent so much money to be here. Despite the staff, the venue has amazing views and that was the upside of the wedding.
