Times Square, Manhattan: Flashy Neon Lights and World-Class Culture

Times Square is at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The famous address—affectionately known as “the Crossroads of the World”—is home to hypnotizing billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and the neon lights of Broadway. Beyond the glitz and gimmicks, there are a number of cultural offerings in the area, ranging from museums to Michelin-rated restaurants. Buildings of historical and architectural interest include the Paramount Building and One Times Square, site of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop.

Nearby, the Museum of Modern Art houses a trove of masterpieces including Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night, Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings, and Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans. Save time for a stroll through the museum's outdoor sculpture garden, where installations are clustered around sparkling reflecting pools. About a mile north of Times Square, the David H. Koch Theater is home to one of the world’s foremost dance companies—the New York City Ballet, which stages contemporary works as well as classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

To me it's about customer service and the customer service was beyond my exceptions. Allison at the front desk is an angel in human form. She was so accommodating to me, I'm a disabled veteran. I was traveling to attend an event at the UN. The location is so close to the UN. You and walk there. You can take the train or Uber. Amtrak and the regular train is so close. Radio City is down the street.

Would I stay again - I dont think so. We stayed as a family group in 2 premium queen rooms. These rooms were refurbished, and quite modern. (Other guests we spoke with were scathing in their comments regarding the non furbished rooms - so beware of which room you book). However, it is obvious that, even in our refurbished room, they have been modernized to a price point. For example, peeling paint, very small shower, taps loose on the wall. Toilet not particularly modern. There is no fridge in the room! But you can request one, for a fee of course! The hotel is very close to Times Square and Central Park, both only a couple of blocks away. As you would expect, the location is very noisy, so take good ear plugs with you. As an aside, during our stay many of the hotel guests were also noisy - at all hours of the day and night. But hey, we are in NYC, right? The hotel offers a 'Grab & Go' breakfast – a piece of fruit, a croissant or muffin, plus coffee or tea and water. Basic, but welcome all the same, especially if you are in a hurry! Our room cleaning was ‘hit and miss’, e.g., the cleaners may take three towels but only eave two. They would take the paper cups and not replace them, etc. Not major issues, but annoying all the same. The hotel is in the middle of a major refurbishment - both the rooms and the lobby area - the latter was a nightmare trying to check in or out, or collect your breakfast grab & go cards. There also seemed to be a lack of front desk staff during our stay - you could have maybe 20 or more people trying to check in and only 2 front desk staff. Given the renovations and the lack of space, the mornings were just a terrible logjam of people. (Seems to me the hotel could alleviate a lot of the queuing issues by simply issuing grab & go breakfast cards during check in, for the entire duration of your stay). Would I stay again - maybe not. I don't think the hotel had a major drawcard or attraction aside from the location - but there are plenty of other choices all around that area that I would try in the future.

Terrible hotel Terrible hotel, the corridors are dirty , carpets destroyed . The rooms were dirty and noisy . Unfortunately this is an old hotel and it desperately needs updating. I am shocked that IHG lend their name to this hotel . I would avoid at all costs .
