San Francisco’s South of Market Neighborhood: Museums, Gardens, and Tech Headquarters

Just north of the popular Mission District, South of Market (or SoMa, as it’s sometimes called) is a vast neighborhood that contains many of the city’s best museums, including the Asian Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Yerba Buena Gardens displays a number of outdoor art pieces and a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, which sits behind a 50-foot-high waterfall. The public gardens, a butterfly garden among them, cover two city blocks.

Quite a few Silicon Valley companies have had headquarters in South of Market, including Twitter, Yelp, and Wired. The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is one of Apple Inc.’s favorite venues for unveiling new products—Steve Jobs introduced the iPod and the iPad to the world from its stage.

Location excellent, at the corner of multiple mass transit-bus to the Bart which I took start from SFAirport. steps from Market street that had shopping & food options. You have to appreciate that it was an older building and could hear conversation directly from adjacent room. You can find ear plugs. Limited bathroom vanity space. Room off of elevator. Bed & room exactly as pictured.

Very nice stay. Room was very warm, so I was glad they could open the window a bit to let air in. The room is small, but the building is from the early 1900's, so that's to be expected. The windows are double paned to keep out noise. It's very very convenient to Union square, the mall, Target, CVS and public transportation (Bart Powell station).as well as buses and cable car.
