Lincoln, New Hampshire: New England Town amid White Mountains and Forests

Formerly a mill town, Lincoln is now home to a modest collection of roadside diners and antique shops. But many visitors are drawn to Lincoln for its proximity to the White Mountains. Loon Mountain, the closest peak, looms 3,050 feet above town. The mountain is best known for its ski slopes—there are 61 trails on 370 skiable acres.

Just northeast of town lies Franconia Notch State Park, home to the former site of the Old Man of the Mountain, a rock formation that remains New Hampshire’s state emblem despite having collapsed in 2003. Photogenic nature scenes can be found at almost every turn here. Birch trees jut out of cliffs and thick mats of moss sprawl over giant boulders.

Great location, decent hotel experience The Mountain Club on the Loon is located right at the start of the Kancamagus highway, so it's a great location! Pros: -Great location - free welcome cookie in the lobby -Nice, helpful staff - comfortable bed -clean room -Free parking -discounts on dining and massage when I checked in Cons: - Shower did not get hot, only got decently warm - sound proofing between floors must not be great, my upstairs neighbors were running around and stomping in the late hours, I called the front desk to complain and they must have helped take care of it because the noise did die down. - Tripadvisor lists that the hotel room includes a fridge, apparently not every room includes this, and mine did not. - there's an automatic sensor fan in the bathroom that goes off every time you go in there, and it's pretty loud and annoying and waits like 10 mins after you leave to finally turn off. Overall a good stay.

Nice quiet Resort for an overnight fall experience with some downsides. My wife and I stayed at the Mountain club on Loon as part of our trip to see the fall foliage in New Hampshire and Vermont. we happen to be there on a night when there were four other tour buses lodged there. Fortunately they staggered their different times and we tend to eat dinner of the hitter and most people. They will also on completely different floors in us and for an older group of people they were relatively noisy. Part of our package was a $25 coupon for dinner. Unfortunately the dinner menu is very limited and air was hardly anything that you could get for under $25. If you use that coupon they automatically put a 20% gratuity on the full price of the dinner which I thought was unnecessary. Our site also included a full breakfast which was the usual dehydrated scrambled eggs, bacon, oven roasted potatoes and oatmeal if he wanted. Our room was very nice and quiet facing away from the ski slopes but did have a very nice view of the opposing mountains. There was also a $50 on for health and wellness in our package. Again there was nothing under $125 that you could use it on and we did not. Overall the value was not that good. This staff was not knowledgeable of where even an ice machine was. I can only imagine during ski season this place would be absolutely crazy.

Great stay! I don't get all the negative reviews in recent months. My wife and I had nothing but very positive interactions with the staff, and we loved all the space we got for a reasonable price. Yes, the breakfast was not the best (good quality, but didn't offer as much as we would have liked) and the parking was a bit of an effort (although very convenient, the spaces are kind of tight), but everything else was amazing for us and we will be back.
