Website photo and reservationist misleading. Room 215. Disappointed. The bad: I spoke to reservationist three times before arriving. Each time I was assured that our room would have an ocean view balcony which was a must. When we arrived, the hotel was full and our room did not have a balcony at all. I was told by staff that reservations are handled from a call center in Jamaica. They recommend in the future trying to reach the hotel directly which I tried prior to our arrival with no success. The website photo of the room we were in, a king suite, really looks like it has a sliding glass door. But that is just a window. Housekeeping comes daily to replace towels but no cleaning. They never took out our trash. Not once. We were there for five nights. I was told they only take the trash out if the trashcan, which is very small, is full. It was full daily. We ended up just taking it out daily. Management advised me that the daily cleaning charge is for departure cleaning only. The good: the room was very clean and nicely decorated and updated. The small kitchen was nice. The restaurant provided a decent complimentary breakfast and menu for lunch and dinner. Overall, the food was good and priced fairly. It was nice that we didn’t have to leave the complex to get lunch or dinner. While they were unable to meet our request for a balcony, staff was pleasant.

From its private beach access to its oceanfront pools, the resort honors Pawleys Island’s legacy as a haven for barefoot luxury. Nearby, historic Georgetown’s antebellum allure and local seafood shacks beckon, ensuring that adventure and relaxation walk hand in hand.

Pawleys Island, SC: Where Southern Charm Meets Timeless Coastal Serenity

Nestled along South Carolina’s Lowcountry coast, Pawleys Island is a tranquil escape steeped in history and natural beauty. Established in the early 18th century as a seasonal retreat for rice planters, this slender barrier island has retained its unhurried charm, with weathered cedar-shake cottages and moss-draped oaks standing as quiet witnesses to centuries of coastal life. Unlike the bustling resorts of nearby Myrtle Beach, Pawleys Island moves to the rhythm of the tides, offering sweeping marsh vistas, pristine beaches, and a sense of seclusion that feels worlds away. Its iconic rope hammocks—handcrafted here since the 1930s—symbolize the island’s dedication to slow living and artisanal tradition.

Beyond its postcard-perfect shores, Pawleys Island is a gateway to the rich ecological and cultural tapestry of the Lowcountry. The saltwater creeks and estuaries teem with herons, dolphins, and oysters, while the historic Georgetown district—just a short drive away—boasts antebellum architecture and Gullah-Geechee heritage. Whether kayaking through the marsh at dawn, casting a line off the historic Pawleys Island Pier, or simply rocking on a porch swing to the sound of rustling palmetto fronds, visitors here become part of a legacy that values simplicity, authenticity, and the enduring magic of the Carolina coast.

Unresponsive management Great location, but the tower is not maintained and the management/ staff are non-responsive. You could not check-in until after 4:00 (even if rooms were available). As you might guess at 4:00, there was a line of 6-7 families waiting to check-in. There was only one person working the desk so check-in was very slow. However, the biggest surprise was when we unloaded our car and approached the elevator only to find 4 or 5 couples sitting on their luggage because the only elevator for the 7 story Inn tower was out of order and had been so for some time. We also were told by the repairmen that they had no idea when it would be operational. One 80 year old couple whose room was on the 5th floor asked the staff for help getting their large suitcases to their room only to be told that there was no one available. When I saw the man later, he said that after waiting about 2 hours he along with a kind vacationer were able to get his luggage to his room. I’m 70+ and had to carry my wife’s and my luggage up 7 flights of stairs. The elevator was finally repaired sometime around noon the next day. At checkout, we were told that the management had decided there would be no bill adjustment because of the elevator malfunction. In fact no one even apologized for the elevator being nonfunctional for approximately 24 hours.

Beware! Poorly maintained and moldy and management wasn’t helpful. The unit had significant mold which hadn’t been cleaned up in a long time including mold on the he bed frame, wooden lamp base on the night stand and the wall behind the bed. The manager stated they didn’t have any other openings even though they did on-line and only offered to have the room cleaned. The level of mold was not something someone could come in a quickly/safely resolve. This was at 9:00 pm after a long drive with a 4 yr old. As a result, I had to find another place to stay at 9:30 pm. It seemed like they didn’t care since the reservation was made through Trip Advisor.

Disappointed So disappointed. I booked here to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We were assigned a dumpy first floor room ( rm 130) in the Tower. The room is dated, dark and filthy feeling. My husband is a disabled vet and there are no grab bars in the shower. Not at all what we expected for $350 a night. The manager said there are no other rooms available and no offer ( so far ) from her for a discount which was mentioned by a front desk clerk. The property is dated other than the restaurant. Pools are small and crowded and there is no outdoor shower on the Towers boardwalk ; so one ends up tracking sand into the room until they are able to get to the room shower. Honestly, I have never been so disappointed in a room. The staff acts like they just don’t care since the place stays booked. The rooms are individually owned. They need to have higher standards to ensure the owners keep the rooms up.
