Hotel at a Glance: The Oceanfront Litchfield Inn

Nestled along the sun-kissed shores of Litchfield Beach, The Oceanfront Litchfield Inn stands as a timeless retreat where Southern hospitality meets coastal charm. This storied haven, perched gracefully upon the dunes of Pawleys Island, invites guests to step into a bygone era of unhurried elegance. Here, the Atlantic’s rhythmic waves whisper tales of generations who have sought solace in its tranquil embrace. Whether casting a line at dawn, meandering through windswept dunes, or savoring the day’s fresh catch as the sun dips below the horizon, every moment here is steeped in the unhurried romance of coastal living.

A jewel of South Carolina’s Grand Strand, the Inn blends secluded serenity with effortless accessibility. Just 20 minutes from Myrtle Beach’s vibrant attractions yet worlds away from its bustle, the property offers a sanctuary where families, couples, and solo travelers alike can unwind. From its private beach access to its oceanfront pools, the resort honors Pawleys Island’s legacy as a haven for barefoot luxury. Nearby, historic Georgetown’s antebellum allure and local seafood shacks beckon, ensuring that adventure and relaxation walk hand in hand.

Pawleys Island, SC: Where Southern Charm Meets Timeless Coastal Serenity

Nestled along South Carolina’s Lowcountry coast, Pawleys Island is a tranquil escape steeped in history and natural beauty. Established in the early 18th century as a seasonal retreat for rice planters, this slender barrier island has retained its unhurried charm, with weathered cedar-shake cottages and moss-draped oaks standing as quiet witnesses to centuries of coastal life. Unlike the bustling resorts of nearby Myrtle Beach, Pawleys Island moves to the rhythm of the tides, offering sweeping marsh vistas, pristine beaches, and a sense of seclusion that feels worlds away. Its iconic rope hammocks—handcrafted here since the 1930s—symbolize the island’s dedication to slow living and artisanal tradition.

Beyond its postcard-perfect shores, Pawleys Island is a gateway to the rich ecological and cultural tapestry of the Lowcountry. The saltwater creeks and estuaries teem with herons, dolphins, and oysters, while the historic Georgetown district—just a short drive away—boasts antebellum architecture and Gullah-Geechee heritage. Whether kayaking through the marsh at dawn, casting a line off the historic Pawleys Island Pier, or simply rocking on a porch swing to the sound of rustling palmetto fronds, visitors here become part of a legacy that values simplicity, authenticity, and the enduring magic of the Carolina coast.

Awesome Vacation We were scheduled to stay in a 2 bedroom villa but a few days prior to our trip, the hotel called saying it would not be available. We were very disappointed and frustrated to find this out so close to our trip. However, 2 oceanfront tower rooms opened up and Chris went above and beyond to compensate us for the last minute switch. Our room was very updated and had a wonderful view of the ocean. I loved having the Cabana Cafe within steps of the ocean and pool. The front desk staff was always super friendly and helpful. This was our first trip to The Litchfield Inn but hopefully will not be our last!

Sadly disappointed Glad we only stayed one night. Room was clean but worn out. Pictures online were very misleading. AC barely worked and the room stayed humid. Beach was clean and beautiful. Staff was friendly. Parking was terrible.

Location is only asset that keeps this business operating I keep staying here hoping my visit will change; but it's like the definition of insanity. I keep doing the same thing over & over hoping for a different result. Each room/unit/suite is owned by a different owner; so you never know what condition your room will be. This trip, my kitchenet did not contain 1 spoon. The front desk gave me a plastic spoon so I could measure out coffee for the next morning. The TV system is Roku so you need to have a 12 year old to show you how to operate your TV. The sliding glass door to the balcony was off track so opening & closing the door was almost an impossibility. The air conditioner vent blew right on your face while you were in bed, so you wake up ever morning with the sniffles. A ceiling fan would have been very helpful. Other than the location, the positive things I have to say are that the staff are very friendly, especially Carmen, and helpful; and the key card always worked. The owners of the units should be ashamed of the condition of their rooms.

GREAT LOCATION The location was amazing. I have a child with special needs and it was important for us to be able to go back and forth to the room during the day. We stayed in the ocean front tower and were able to just hope on the elevator and go to the beach. The view was spectacular. I spent most of my time in the room out on the balcony. The balcony furniture was in rough shape, but it did the job. The staff were very pleasant and helpful! We did have a few issues. One of the beds was NOT comfortable. I'm not sure if it was broken or if the mattress just needed to be replaced. It was one of the reasons we left a day early. The AC was very cold, but it dripped onto some of our stuff that was on the floor below. The bathroom also needed some cleaning as there was heavy dust on the cabinets that were shut and the bathroom door was really dirty around the door handle. The main room was clean. For the most part it met my expectations based on reviews I had previously read. We weren't expecting the Hilton. While we did leave a day early, the hotel did work with us and refunded the last night.

Not the best place to stay. WE stayed at the Inn for none days out of necessity. The room was not as clean as it should have been and needed a complete makeover. The cleaners were not allowed in our rooms due to covid but no one wore a mask anywhere. It took me three days and a lot of requests for a change of sheets and a broken vaccuum. I cleaned the bathroom, changed the sheets and swept the room myself.
