Great Place to stay in New Orleans - Courteous and welcoming staff I had a great experience at the Hotel Pontchartrain last weekend. The front desk staff, the elevator usher, the beautiful young lady/hostess - were so welcoming! The young man by the elevator always knew the right thing to say to make one feel at ease. I was honestly impressed- I checked in late on Friday 8/8, the young lady was pleasant and efficient with a smile. She suggested the Cheddar burger at the Bayou Bar. 10 out of 10. Unfortunately I can't remember their names. On Saturday evening, I needed some guidance around 8:30 the young lady displayed the same welcoming smile and helpful demeanor. I have been bragging about my stay to all. I highly recommend this hotel for a staycation or vacation. This hotel is accessible by Streetcar !

Hotel at a Glance: The Pontchartrain Hotel

Perched on St. Charles Avenue in the heart of the Garden District, The Pontchartrain isn’t just a hotel—it’s a New Orleans original. Since 1927, our 14 stories have seen it all, from Mardi Gras parades rolling by to late-night jazz drifting through the halls. With interiors dressed in bold black lacquer, mint-green accents, and layers of Moroccan rugs, we’re equal parts timeless and a little bit eccentric—just like the city we call home. Our rooms and suites are made for more than sleeping. They’re places to recharge, linger, and maybe get inspired by a view of the Crescent City. Step outside your door and the energy shifts from cozy retreat to full-on celebration. At Jack Rose, toast with champagne and dive into Cajun flavors. Upstairs at the Mile High Pie Club, raise a glass beneath the open sky. And in the Living Room, don’t be surprised if you find yourself lounging under Lil Wayne’s gaze while the music keeps the night going. The Pontchartrain is where locals and travelers meet, history and modern flair collide, and every stay feels like a story worth retelling.

New Orleans, LA: Cradle of American Culture and Resilience

New Orleans isn’t just another American city—it’s an original. Born in 1718 under French rule, shaped by Spanish hands, and folded into the U.S. with the Louisiana Purchase, the Crescent City wears its layered past with pride. The French Quarter’s wrought-iron balconies and narrow streets aren’t just for postcards—they’re proof that history here never sits still. At the bend of the Mississippi, New Orleans became a port that welcomed the world—trading not only goods, but people, ideas, and rhythms that would forever change the South. This is the birthplace of jazz, where sound became resistance and celebration all at once. Mardi Gras, second lines, and Sunday brass bands carry on traditions that are equal parts African, Caribbean, and European—woven into something that could only exist here. Through hurricanes, floods, and the kind of challenges that would flatten most places, New Orleans doesn’t just survive—it reinvents. Always honoring its past, always creating something new, and always reminding the world: there’s nowhere else like it.

Terrible hotel This is not a hotel that you ever want to stay at. Rude, inexperienced staff (the front desk person had no idea how to check us out ) and they don’t provide water in the rooms. After a night out in New Orleans, the only option is buying water from the bar for $7 a bottle! The rooms are very out dated and not decorated with any type of New Orleans style. This place revolves around the roof top bar, that’s all the property is there for

Gorgeous Hotel! This is a gorgeous vintage hotel that was built in 1929! Love all the decor, in both the lobby and room along with the gorgeous vintage wallpaper in the ceiling of the elevator! The valet service was exceptional, especially Phillip, who we dealt with the most!

Highly recommend - so great! The character, history, and the wonderful staff made our stay so enjoyable. Plus, we enjoyed a couple of the concerts in the Bayou bar. Highly recommend. Plus, the rooms were spotless. We did not go to the café so I can’t speak to that. But the Bayou bar was awesome.
