Wonderful girl's trip, Book Pyramid or higher if possible! I booked a girlfriend's trip to celebrate my 50th birthday and the July birthdays of my girlfriends. We had a FABULOUS time!! We booked a Pyramid ocean front room (the building on the right as you're looking out onto the water) and it was a fabulous location. We met RICARDO-honestly, the best bartender I've ever had on a vacation, on our first day, on the way to our room. The porter stopped at his bar so we could get a couple drinks to enjoy while settling in. Ricardo took note of our tiaras (it was a birthday trip after all!) and told us he would take care of his tres princesas! Ricardo truly went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our trip. It was like having our own personal bartender. He was truly amazing, his service and attention was the highlight of our trip. Months later, we are STILL talking about how much we loved Ricardo. We had dinner our first night at Black Sens, and my girlfriends throuroughly enjoyed dinner. The show that is put on for diners is unique, and very cute. It was awesome the way they called out to my girlfriend (whose birthday we were celebrating that night) throughout the show. She loved it. We had dinner at Sakura on another evening, and honestly, I would skip it next time. The food was fine, but the show was a little lackluster, and quite loud given the small space. We had to cancel our dinner at Benazuza (unfortunately) due to a mix up with our tour on the day that was scheduled. Our last dinner was at Carayes, and was wonderful. All in all, we enjoyed the food, but primarily stuck to the included options with our Black Pyramid Bands. Breakfast and lunches were either at the Mirimar buffet (I think that's what it was called-the exclusive buffet area for Pyramid and Sian K'aan guests). We were very happy with our room on the beach, and even got to see them care for the turtles (hatched) and turtle eggs that were being moved to the little sanctuary on property. In talking to other guests during our stay, there was a noted difference in experience and opinions of those who were Grand Oasis guests (blue wristbands). Honestly, their opinions ranged from I'm on vacation, I'm going to make the best of it, to We'll never stay here again. That's quite a difference from our experience booking the more upscale experiences. So, if you can swing it, booking The Pyramid or Sian K'aan is worth it in my opinion. The ocean was very rough during our stay, so we mainly stayed in the pool. As far as the questions everyone asks.....we smelled the stuff everyone asks about once or twice, but it was minimal and we did not find it offensive. If you're a smoker, we were fine smoking on our balcony without any issues (we did bring a travel ashtray with us because we are not jerks). We were never approached about smoking on property, and we were mindful of other guests. As far as bringing pesos or USD, bring USD, in small denominations. I brought pesos (ordered from my US bank), and was given large denominations, and had a difficult time (read:impossible) to get them broken down into smaller denominations suitable for tipping. I did bring USD as back up, and just ended up switching "tipping" strategies. My pesos became our champagne budget, and I used my smaller USD to tip (mostly RICARDO!!!) the porters, servers, and other staff. Please folks....tip those that are making your vacation memorable. They work very hard in the blistering heat so we can enjoy our vacations. A little generosity goes a long way. All in all, we would definitely go back, as Pyramid guests. For the management: PLEASE give Ricardo our regards, he truly was a stand-out employee who went above and beyond to take care of us. He's a gem, and his tres princesas will always remember him!
