Rangeley, Maine: Idyllic Resort Town Known as Maine’s Four Season Playground

In the early 1900s, Rangeley went from secluded logging village to exclusive resort town. Cabins, summer homes, and inns cropped up extending a welcome invitation to New England’s elite including President Herbert Hoover. Rangeley Lake serves as the main hub of summer activity, with boaters and fishermen anxiously awaiting its ice thaw every spring. Once it warms up, you can catch landlocked salmon and brook trout or hike out under the shadow of Saddleback Mountain, which towers over the lakes. Rangeley doesn’t shut down in winter, though. Downhill skiing and snowboarding have people racing to the surrounding mountains; there are even designated snowmobiling trails that snake their way through the area.

Excellent find What a treat. We stayed a few nights in Quebec City and were driving to Ogunquit, Me to see family. I divided the drive in half, checked the map and decided Rangeley was about 1/2 way. We chose the Rangeley Inn and boy, were we right. Our room was in a building with motel type rooms right by the pond. Believe me, that is the place to stay, although the rooms in the Inn are also beautiful. Ours had a small patio with an unobstructed view of the water. Stunning. The room was immaculate and fairly large with a nice bathroom with shower. There was a very effective a/c with a remote control. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Inn. It was very good, fresh and delicious, Simple stuff for dinner and breakfast basics. The town has several places to eat and an excellent ice cream store as well as a couple outfitting and souvenir shops. 5 stars

Great place to stay!! The hotel was so beautiful, cozy and clean. The staff was beyond accommodating. One of the couples had an accident and they did everything they could to make it a perfect weekend in spite of their injuries. The Operations Manager, Debbie, even went to far as to get us a wheelchair for the duration of our stay. The Tavern was an additional asset. The drinks were good and the food was great too! Hope to get back there under better circumstances.
