Property at a Glance: Red Coach Inn

After stag hunting, Saxon royals often retired to the Bell Inn in Finedon, England, whose history dates back nearly 1,000 years. This English Tudor–style estate served as the inspiration to hoteliers William Schoellkopf and Charles Peabody when they decided to build an inn near Niagara Falls. In August of 1923, Red Coach Inn opened its doors, eventually earning a AAA Three Diamond distinction. And since the bed and breakfast is adjacent to the Upper Rapids of Niagara Falls, it puts guests close enough to hear the roar of the water.

  • Where you’ll stay: Guest rooms and suites—each named after an English village—blend antique furnishings with modern amenities such as jetted tubs. Most windows overlook the falls’ frothy Upper Rapids.
  • Rise and shine with a complimentary breakfast at the award-winning Fireside Room, where you’ll find the likes of Belgian waffles and eggs.
  • Take a stroll on the scenic grounds, which are located just 500 yards from the brink.
  • Upload your pics easily thanks to the property’s free WiFi.

Niagara Falls, New York: Spectacular Waterfalls at United States–Canada Border

Every second, hundreds of thousands of gallons of water cascade down Niagara Falls. You can watch the water spill over jagged cliffs from pedestrian bridges and observation decks. The best view, though, might be from the Hurricane Deck, a wooden platform located 20 feet from Bridal Veil Falls. From spring to fall, you can access the platform by taking the Cave of the Winds tour, during which professional guides lead poncho-clad visitors to Bridal Veil Falls via wooden pathways. For an up-close encounter with the falls, you can book a ride aboard the Maid of the Mist; the tour boat shuttled sightseeing guests to the base of the thundering Horseshoe Falls for more than 100 years and continues to operate on the American side of the falls.

Millions of tourists have flocked to Niagara Falls since the early 1800s. Around that time, Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger brother honeymooned in the area with his American bride; scores of newlyweds followed in their footsteps, earning Niagara Falls the nickname of “Honeymoon Capital of the World.” But it’s not just romantics that flock to the border town; it’s also a family-friendly destination, thanks to its indoor water parks, an aquarium, arcades, and casinos for the 21-and-older crowd. For outdoorsy types, the 400-acre Niagara Falls State Park offers miles of hiking trails.

Not recommended Stayed in the hotel earlier this week. Room was dirty and dingy. Ate in the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner. For dinner, the cook missed my food allergy warning and served food I could not have. When the steak came out the second time, the quality was poor for the price point. Will not return!

Disapointing I have wanted to stay here for a long time. We stayed in the Highland Suite, and loved it when we first walked in. We began to notice problems very quickly....only 2 bath towels for 3 people. One towel rack for 3 people. Window shades didn't close. You could have hidden 2 dead bodies under the sofa, it was circa 1970 and totally shot. That was bad enough, but I had to sleep on the sofa bed! I wanted to switch rooms or sofas, but the place was totally booked, and my husband pointed out that the sofas were all probably about the same. The house phones do not work. For housekeeping you are supposed to fill out a little form and give it to your server at breakfast, which we did, but we only received our requests 1 day out of 4. The AC died the third night, and they had it fixed the following morning, so that was good. The breakfast was delicious.

You forgot one The restaurant at the Red Coach Inn at Niagara Falls was absolutely fantastic. Went there for our 40th anniversary. The river is literally across the street. The food was terrific. So much so that we ate every meal there. The atmosphere is great because of the history..I won't spoil it for you and our server was absolute perfection. Highly, highly recommend this place.
