Playa del Carmen, Mexico: Trendy Beach Area and Diving Destination

Just across the sea from the island of Cozumel, Playa del Carmen has been called “the hippest city in all of the Yucatán Peninsula” by Lonely Planet. The laid-back beach bars and cafés have a way of converting vacationers into expats, but Playa’s most compelling draw might be its cenotes—cavernous sinkholes filled with turquoise pools. The water in the cenotes is crystal clear, particularly at the lily-pad-dotted Xlacah cenote, where you can snorkel among schools of colorful fish.

To the south, you’ll find preserved ruins of pre-Columbian cities. Tulum’s crumbling temples are situated above a dramatic ocean bluff, and Coba’s enormous pyramid rises between two lagoons. For a fun day trip, hop aboard the ferry to Cozumel, which docks at the pier east of Calle 1. There are about a dozen dive shops on Cozumel, and they offer trips offshore to the reefs that Jacques Cousteau declared some of the world’s most beautiful.

Absolutely amazing. I highly recommend to everyone to purchase this deal while you can. When you hear all inclusive you think the food will be mediocre, but this was some of the best food I’ve ever had. Also , Felipe, Alan, and Emiliano are the GOATS! They made our experience even better than it already was. The decor, the pools, the room, the drinks, the strip, the beach, all outstanding!

Almost everything met or exceeded expectations. Did not appreciate pushy hotel staff cornering us into attending a timeshare pitch under the guise of getting us a good deal on excursions

They are SCAMMERS, they charge you up front for round trip shuttle service and the shuttle won’t pick u up to go to the airport. They will act as if no one understands English when you have a problem but everybody speaks it well at check in or when you are paying for something. I was told by DANYELLA ARRIAGA the guest services lady that I received my refund for the shuttle, then she told me I was given a option to get my refund and declined, then the last story was how it was a misunderstanding and if I come back to the hotel in the future I can be compensated someway probably with a coupon BUT THEY CAN DO EVERYTHING TO MAKE UP FOR STEALING FROM PEOPLE EXCEPT GUVING THEM BACK THEIR MONEY. The rooms STINK! Smell like mildew. The all inclusive beware cause the restaurants are only open 6-10 and there is a snack bar open at the pool allday.after 10 you can’t get ANYTHING smh not worth it BEWARE THEY ARE SCAMMERS

Very disappointed. Power went out in the hotel several times in the week we stayed there and I rely on my C-pap machine to work in the night and that's when most of the power outages were. We requested water for our fridge instead of soda or beer and they did not bring any after our concierge specifically asked us what our requests were. We had to also ask staff daily for washcloths to be brought to our room. They would take them and not leave any fresh washcloths. This was the same situation for another room; which my two adult sons were staying in down the hall from us.
