Hotel at a Glance: The Saguaro Palm Springs

Nestled against the majestic San Jacinto Mountains, The Saguaro Palm Springs stands as a vibrant tribute to the heritage and natural beauty of the Coachella Valley. This is not merely a hotel, but a colorful landmark where the spirit of a classic desert retreat is reimagined through a bold, contemporary lens. The property’s architecture draws direct inspiration from the wildflowers that blanket the region each spring, with a façade that showcases an unforgettable spectrum of color. From its inception, The Saguaro was destined to be more than a place to stay; it was conceived as a destination that honors the joyful and sunny disposition of Palm Springs itself, creating a living postcard of California's mid-century modern optimism.

Within its grounds, the hotel cultivates an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication and communal enjoyment. The heart of the property centers around a sparkling swimming pool, two relaxing hot tubs, and a lively pool bar, all perfect for enjoying the desert sun. The air is filled with the scent of citrus from mature trees and the sounds of curated music, reflecting the area's deep connection to both natural tranquility and modern leisure. Every detail, from the thoughtfully landscaped gardens to the dynamic social spaces, is designed to provide an authentic and immersive Palm Springs experience, connecting guests to the enduring allure of this iconic American destination.

PALM SPRINGS: Where Mid-Century Modernism Meets the Desert Sun

Nestled within the vast and dramatic Coachella Valley, Palm Springs stands as a triumphant monument to both natural beauty and human ingenuity. Shielded by the majestic San Jacinto Mountains, this city emerged as a legendary retreat, drawing Hollywood luminaries seeking seclusion under its perpetually sunny skies. The clean, geometric lines of Mid-Century Modern architecture, now synonymous with the city's identity, were a direct and brilliant response to the desert environment. These iconic homes and buildings, with their expansive glass walls and seamless indoor-outdoor living spaces, represent a golden age of American design, a period of optimistic innovation that is preserved with immense pride throughout the city's streets.

Beyond its architectural legacy, Palm Springs thrives as a vibrant oasis of culture and leisure. The city pulses with a dynamic energy, from the chic boutiques and world-class art galleries of Uptown Design District to the tranquil, palm-shaded courtyards that offer respite from the sun. By day, the landscape invites exploration, from the otherworldly vistas of Joshua Tree National Park to the serene heights accessible via the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. As evening falls, the ambiance shifts to one of sophisticated relaxation, where the clinking of glasses at a stylish poolside bar complements the stunning silhouette of the mountains against a painted desert sky, solidifying its status as an enduring icon of California cool.

good - but needs some updating. So it has been many years since i have last stayed here and I would say that the years have not been super kind to the hotel. Overall my experience was good - so my review should reflect that - but i will say that the hotel just looked more run down than i expected. It certainly could use some updating and renovations. That being said the staff was nice, the pool was still great (though their was no bar or pool service during my weekday stay). The restaurant was also good (both in friendliness and food quality) and you could buy drinks from there and take to the pool - which helped make up for lack of poolside service.

Casual fun at a great price (if you live in CA) My partner and I picked the Saguaro for a weekend getaway because of its great California-local promotional rates, casual atmosphere, and LGBTQ+ friendly brand identity. The hotel was clean and appealingly designed, especially the outdoor common areas (pool etc) and our room, though the building as a whole was definitely older, and there were some areas that were less well-maintained than others (like a bizarrely warm first-floor hallway and an upstairs hallway with a loud fan blowing 24/7.) I visited the spa, which, while being located in the basement and didn't have some of the "set dressing" that other hotel spas in the Palm Springs area have, was also VERY clean and the service value-for-price was definitely worth it. We grabbed a late dinner at El Jefe when we got into town and went to Drag Brunch on Saturday - both meals were delicious, and the restaurant prices at El Jefe felt reasonable. (Whether the price of Drag Brunch is reasonable is completely dependent on your feelings about Drag Brunch as a concept, but the queens put on a great show.) One sore point was the entertainment options on the in-room television - local cable or EXTREMELY expensive pay-per-view, with no option to log into your own streaming account.

some good/some bad - honest review Let’s start with the good: the pool area and central courtyard look beautiful at night, and I can see why people are drawn to it. I also liked the bar and restaurant décor, modern and up to date. Now for the not-so-good. Friday night’s Concert Under the Stars sounded like a great concept, but it made for a poor guest experience. The event was open to outside visitors (for a fee), and it felt weird trying to relax in the pool while people in date-night attire crowded around. I even saw hotel guests asked to vacate pool loungers so they could be upsold to outside guests for a better view. I understand the need to generate revenue, but moves like that make paying guests feel secondary and not a good experience. Saturday didn’t improve things. We arrived at the pool around 5 p.m. to find no towels and a closed pool bar, surprising it being a Saturday night. The pool itself was dirty, with an oily surface, floating trash, and hair. By 6 p.m. there was no staff in sight. When we left and tried the main hotel bar, it was also closed, and we were redirected to the restaurant bar(drinks were good). As for the property, the exterior and hallways could use updating, it has more of a motel feel than a resort. Overall, we did our best to enjoy the trip, and there were some highlights, but the negatives outweighed them, and unfortunately we won’t be returning.
