Hotel at a Glance: The Scott Resort & Spa

Luxury accommodations aren't hard to come by in Scottsdale, but The Scott Resort & Spa stands out as a true retreat among the area's upscale hotels. The resort's back courtyard gives the feeling of a tropical getaway: palm trees and lush greenery fill the space around two lagoon-like pools. The La Boca Pool is surrounded by private cabanas that guests can rent by the day, securing prime poolside real estate and shade under the hot Arizona sun. The La Playa Pool delivers on what its name promises: cool blue waters for taking a midday dip, as well as enough sand for building castles and replicas of nearby Camelback Mountain.

  • Shopping in Scottsdale: Despite feeling secluded, the resort is just down the street from Scottsdale Waterfront and Scottsdale Fashion Square.
  • Luxury poolside amenities: In between dips in the resort's pools, guests can sip on cocktails and nosh on vittles served at The Canal Club Poolside.
  • Ultimate relaxation, guests can visit The Scott's La Vidorra Spa, where they can indulge in a massage, facial, mani-pedi, or body treatment.
  • Outdoor adventures: Hiking, biking, and horseback riding outside of Scottsdale make a vacation there worth writing home about.

Scottsdale, Arizona: Stucco Mansions amid Rocky Desert Landscape

Scottsdale once served as ranch land where farmers grew oranges and lemons and cowboys kicked up dust in the fierce, dry heat of the Sonoran Desert. That era earned Scottsdale the nickname of “The West's Most Western Town.” Today, it is an affluent city landscaped with lush green grass and lined with stucco mansions. For a glimpse of the city's Old West roots, head to Old Town Scottsdale, where wooden boardwalks and hitching posts sit in front of a retro ice-cream parlor and rustic specialty shops.

Upon arriving in Scottsdale, you know you're in the desert—cacti and tumbleweeds dot the landscape, and dry shrubs and gnarled trees cover the McDowell Mountains in the distance. To get a closer look at Southwestern flora, head to the Desert Botanical Garden. There, themed trails wind past huge cacti and other moisture-hoarding succulents, best seen in the cooler early morning or twilight hours.

We stayed for a mini staycation. The purpose was to enjoy the pool and decompress. We rented a cabana for the day which I highly recommend! The decor was absolutely wonderful! The fool was clever and delicious! Every staff person from Valet, Front Desk, Pool Service and room service was absolutely excellent! We will definitely return!

3.5 There were some really good parts but mostly it wasn’t worth the price. Location is good—walkable to lots of shopping, restaurants, etc. Ubers and Waymo readily available. But the hotel has a shuttle that will drive you anywhere in a 3 mile radius. We found this out on last day. When we checked in we were not made aware of shuttle or any other amenities. We found gym on our own and it was nice. Food at restaurants was good. Do not under any circumstances accept an even numbered room in the Agua Dulce building if you’d like to sleep past 5:30am. The staff are dragging carts in front of that building constantly from 5:30-7:30am. We stayed 3 nights, and were consistently woken up by this. The door men were really nice as was the pool bartender. Pools are allegedly heated but the water was freezing.

Very nice, but not worth the price paid. Very nice, but i wouldn't say worth the price. The lobby is gorgeous! the pool area - gorgeous, although the pool is FREEZING and don't expect to get a lot of sun as the palm trees make it pretty shaded in most areas which is either good or bad. (We are from WI so wanted all the sun we could get). The room - which was just a standard room, was pretty...standard. Cuban decor was neat and lovely but all in all, it was a rather small, ordinary room. Small bathroom, low ceilings, mini bar that i didn't dare take anything from. Not worth the $650/night. For that amount, i would expect near luxury. We were only there for 1 night so we didn't take part in a lot of amenities. Great location though. I will say - we got there early and they let us check in almost 4 hours early which was very much appreciated!

Disappointing facilities and staff for an expensive night's stay Upon checking in, I asked for a quiet, well-placed room. We were put in a street-facing room in the pets building, so street noise and dogs barking early am. Upon inquiring about moving was told it was a $60 up-charge to change rooms: I had booked a patio room and nowhere does it say that patios are street facing - the resort is just off the highway exit. We had dead plants in our back patio area, the lighting from the back patio shone brightly and directly into our room. The furniture was scratched, the phone keypad was mangled. Then to the pool area - upon arrival there were no open seats or if there were, they were covered in used towels (we arrived on a Friday afternoon). There are no tables upon which to place your drink and there were plastic drink cups strewn around on the ground. So, not well maintained, check in staff not listening or accommodating. Had high hopes and at every turn dashed. Not an inexpensive resort - should have stayed at the Biltmore but was trying to branch out.
