Scottsdale, Arizona: Stucco Mansions amid Rocky Desert Landscape

Scottsdale once served as ranch land where farmers grew oranges and lemons and cowboys kicked up dust in the fierce, dry heat of the Sonoran Desert. That era earned Scottsdale the nickname of “The West's Most Western Town.” Today, it is an affluent city landscaped with lush green grass and lined with stucco mansions. For a glimpse of the city's Old West roots, head to Old Town Scottsdale, where wooden boardwalks and hitching posts sit in front of a retro ice-cream parlor and rustic specialty shops.

Upon arriving in Scottsdale, you know you're in the desert—cacti and tumbleweeds dot the landscape, and dry shrubs and gnarled trees cover the McDowell Mountains in the distance. To get a closer look at Southwestern flora, head to the Desert Botanical Garden. There, themed trails wind past huge cacti and other moisture-hoarding succulents, best seen in the cooler early morning or twilight hours.

Super love this resort ! Excellent resort ! Very spacious and updated. I’m glad my hubby and I found this place via on line. The property is very accessible to all the malls and POI. The rooms are clean and the pool and dining area. Service is excellent. Looks like we will do this again. I can’t wait .

12/3 - 12/7/25 stay Stayed here with soccer team. They are still in the process of renovating this place to turn it into a Kimpton. So all the villas have yet to be renovated, still on the older side but bigger space than the studios. The studio that I saw was fully renovated had 2 brand new king beds and fully remodeled. Some families were even upgraded to the 2 story villas. I just got the 1 story villa with living room & bedroom with 2 queens. I appreciate that they allowed early checkin. For checkout, 2pm was the latest as a platinum member. But they did allow us to shower at their gym later after soccer game, before our flight. So kudos for that. Huge property, so make sure you have staff show you where your room is at. Some families declined and got lost especially because it’s so hard to read the signs & it was at night. Since they’re renovating hopefully they make building numbers & signs more readable. Multiple outdoor pools around, one was closed due to renovation. And they warmed up the pools to 85 so that they could swim in December. Due to renovation all room phone lines were down. But texting front desk was available. One night there was a planned electricity shut off 11pm-3am, but no issue for us as it forced us to go to bed. No resort fee for this time period, so not complaining! The only annoying thing was the daily cleaning service would try to come between 8-9am, which was a bit too early. But at least they still clean rooms daily unlike other places. No complimentary breakfast. Never tried their restaurant if there was one, but there is a bunch of restaurants that is walkable right across the street. Lots of parking available! Once they’re done renovating this place, it’ll probably be top notch!

Great stay-property amenities, rooms and super staff We chose Kimpton Miralina for our family trip given room size(kids entire separate sleep space) and property amenities. The hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff works so tirelessly to ensure a great experience. Anytime we had a need staff was everywhere and eager to help! (Special thanks to Angie & Desiree. they each took great due care-quite awhile to explain property amenities and location) There are Pools and Hot Tubs in every area of the hotel. well heated and easy to access. Great Fitness Center. The hotel is in a great location mere minutes to the Invergordon Chola Trail and to the Center of Scottsdale (right by the Fashion Square Mall). Rooms were exceptional! we had a separate Casita townhome Style where the kids had an entirely separate closed space. Everyone had a great time we will certainly be back.
