Scottsdale, Arizona: Stucco Mansions amid Rocky Desert Landscape

Scottsdale once served as ranch land where farmers grew oranges and lemons and cowboys kicked up dust in the fierce, dry heat of the Sonoran Desert. That era earned Scottsdale the nickname of “The West's Most Western Town.” Today, it is an affluent city landscaped with lush green grass and lined with stucco mansions. For a glimpse of the city's Old West roots, head to Old Town Scottsdale, where wooden boardwalks and hitching posts sit in front of a retro ice-cream parlor and rustic specialty shops.

Upon arriving in Scottsdale, you know you're in the desert—cacti and tumbleweeds dot the landscape, and dry shrubs and gnarled trees cover the McDowell Mountains in the distance. To get a closer look at Southwestern flora, head to the Desert Botanical Garden. There, themed trails wind past huge cacti and other moisture-hoarding succulents, best seen in the cooler early morning or twilight hours.

Things you don't want to deal with on your birthday The check-in was truly horrible The first room there was hair and garbage behind the nightstands in both of the showers it was my birthday so was trying to get checked in so that I could get ready to go out I went to the second room the second was not in my comfort level like the first one the first one was perfect except it was dirty then they took me to a third one which I took just because I was exhausted I can say that the lady that checked me in was not really happy to accommodate me The bellman did come to the rooms and see that there was hair in them and the situation with the room not being clean properly he was great he was very nice guy and willing to try to make me comfortable so I did appreciate him Asked may be for a discount or comp a breakfast seen as how I am going to be late for my birthday dinner and also just all of the stuff you don't want to deal with on your birthday and was advised they didn't comp anything but she would be willing to give me a free cup of coffee and only after I said really did she add the parfait.

Excellent Stay. _ The front desk folks and every member of the staff worked to make sure our conference was a success! The meals were excellent. Wow the catering department exceeded our expectations. Our rooms were spotlessly clean. The pool and patio was the perfect place to unwind and connect with colleagues. Best of all… I needed to send my wife a love letter. The front desk manager found a stamp for me. Thank you! 5 enthusiastic stars!

Saw Resort - Experienced low-budget motel This place seems like it is going out of business - literally. There's no room service (in fact no restaurant!), the "registration" is in the gift shop...everything about this "resort" (what a laugh) seems like a going out of business sale.
