Hotel at a Glance: The Union Hotel
The Union Hotel has seen its fair share of revelry over the years—more than two centuries’ worth, in fact. The building has housed a pub (currently called the Bullshead Tavern) since 1802. It’s also served as a hotel, a store, and temporary housing for Union soldiers, but the tavern element has remained constant. Today, guests of the bed and breakfast can still grab pints of locally brewed beer to cap off a day of recreation in the Alleghenies.

Everett, Pennsylvania: Gateway to the Alleghenies
Tucked into a valley in southern Pennsylvania, Everett is flanked by the peaks of the Alleghenies. Consequently, the town acts as a gateway to outdoor adventure in the mountains. A number of hiking and cross-country skiing trails crisscross Tenley Park a few blocks north of Main Street. These range from short, easy loops around the park to more challenging treks.
Once it warms up, you can take a relaxing kayak, canoe, or tube ride down the Juniata River, which bisects the town. Driving along the historic Lincoln Highway provides up-close views of the Alleghenies. The scenic road picks up just north of town and runs lengthwise across the state.
