Hotel at a Glance: The Verb Hotel

At The Verb Hotel, it's hard to say what might catch your eye first: the fact that it's across the street from Fenway or the neon, Mondrian-inspired windows and black-and-white floors. Pulling inspiration from Boston's arts and music scene, the hotel has been lovingly restored since it originally opened in 1959. Music memorabilia from old radios to electric guitars decorate the lobby and bold colors make the hotel pop. Art is everywhere, too, with small retro pieces in the guest rooms and large murals and gallery walls in the lobby.

  • In-room amenities: robes, 47-inch flat-screen TVs, mini fridges, hairdryers, and free Wi-Fi
  • Work up a sweat in the Boston Sports Club, using your complimentary pass.
  • Award-winning restaurant, Hojoko, serves up modern Japanese tavern cuisine in the ultra-hip surrounding.
  • Must-try cocktail: Tokyo Tea blends Jcabrito tequila, lemon, bittered midori, with green tea

Boston's Back Bay: Victorian Architecture and Historical Landmarks on the Charles River

Boston’s Back Bay used to be just that—a literal bay that extended into the Charles River. In the mid-1800s, developers added landfill and created the grid-style neighborhood that remains today. Victorian brownstones and kempt gardens line the wide avenues of this waterside enclave that lies just west of Beacon Hill. Boston is a highly walkable city with a good public transportation system to boot, so you’ll be able to get to several other neighborhoods as well, including the Boston Common, which is the starting point for the famed Freedom Trail.

Often called the Rodeo Drive of the East, Newbury Street stretches eight blocks east from Massachusetts Avenue to Arlington Street. The quaint tree-lined street is home to dozens of high-end retailers such as Chanel and Cartier, as well as vintage boutiques and consignment shops. Between Newbury and the Charles lies some of the most desirable real estate in Boston; the historic brownstones are worth checking out. The Esplanade, a 3-mile jogging path along the Charles, is especially popular in the summer.

Didn't work for us We stayed at the Verb for 4 nights while on a 2-week road trip. We chose this hotel strictly because of the location. It is right across the street from Fenway Park and within walking distance to several great restaurants, grocery stores, and a Target. That being said, you definitely pay top dollar for the great location. All staff we encountered were friendly, courteous, helpful, and efficient. The grounds and common areas were clean and nicely landscaped. We enjoyed sitting out by the pool to relax and have drinks after long days of sightseeing. The breakfast offered was amazing! Lots of unique food choices. My husband is a full-time wheelchair user. He is able to take care of his personal needs when in an environment that is wheelchair accessible. We have been traveling together for over 40 years. My complaints and low score are strictly due to accessibility issues we encountered. Are room was supposedly an ADA wheelchair accessible room with a roll in shower. The walkways in this room are way too narrow to accommodate a wheelchair user and their traveling companion. There was not enough space between the bed and other furniture for my husband and I to pass each other. I was constantly having to climb over the bed in order to move around the room. The second issue we had was with the shower. There were 2 shower heads; one hand held and the other was mounted on the wall. The shower head that was mounted on the wall was pointed towards the shower curtain. When I took a shower, the bathroom floor and outside hallway got soaked. I had to call someone to clean it up. We will be looking for other hotel options if ever in the area again. The Verb just didn’t work for us.

Stay here to save your legs Great place to stay that is located as close as you can get to Fenway Park. We were greeted pleasantly to start off our stay by Keya the valet parking attendant. In addition, JD at the front desk was also very informative to answer our questions. If you are into sushi, try the rib experience at Hojoku their sushi restaurant. In the morning, the restaurant converts into a breakfast service. Rooms were clean, large, and felt safe and secure....appreciate our housekeeper Alejandra for doing up our room nice. We asked for a room overlooking the pool area since we had a balcony. Don't forget to get a vinyl from the front desk area so you can play it on the record player. It was worth the price with what you receive and the time you save to enjoy a baseball game at Fenway.

Amazing Hotel with Unique Rooms I stayed at the Verb Hotel back in March 2025. The actual room was super unique, nothing like I'd stayed in before. When we arrived the people were very friendly and helped us with all our bags to our room! My room did not have a view, but the room itself was amazing!
