Atlanta, Georgia: Urban Parks and Renowned Aquarium in Capital of the South

Named 1 of 50 Places of a Lifetime by National Geographic, Atlanta lies near the Chattahoochee River in Georgia's northwest region known for its famed trees: magnolias, pines, and dogwoods. Despite a metropolitan population of more than five million and what is considered the world's busiest airport by passenger count, Atlanta seems to always offer a relaxing escape. Stroll through the 185 acres of botanical gardens, hiking trails, and oaks at Piedmont Park, or study one of the country's largest Civil War exhibitions at the Atlanta History Center.

Anchored by historical Peachtree Street, the city's midtown area boasts a thriving arts-and-culture scene. Opened in 1929, the Fox Theatre features imposing Egyptian architecture and a custom-made organ with a network of 3,622 pipes. Tours take place on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. The High Museum of Art spotlights more than 12,000 pieces of contemporary and folk art, ranging from Renaissance paintings to photographs from the civil-rights era. Kids might better enjoy the Georgia Aquarium, located downtown at Centennial Olympic Park. One of the world's largest aquariums with more than 8 million gallons of fresh and marine water and more than 100,000 animals, the aquarium is home to beluga whales, lionfish, whale sharks, bottlenose dolphins, and more.

The Westin Buckhead! The Westin Buckhead is a Beautiful Hotel! The front desk staff is Amazing and Raphael took great care of me! Once you walk in the 30 foot plus lobby with floor to ceiling windows and the Palm Restaurant right off the lobby, you'll know you made a great choice!

Stay elsewhere in Buckhead Disappointing stay. Room not properly cleaned or made up when we arrived. Fitness center had poorly working equipment. Concierge lounge closed for weekend. Expect better from a Westin in Buckhead. Good location though.

Buckhead amenities and convenience We stayed at this Westin for a recent long weekend trip to Atlanta and we were very pleased with all this hotel had to offer. With this central location, we had easy walking accessibility to Lenox Mall and restaurants like Bistro Niko just a few blocks away. The rooms were clean and the pillows suprisingly firm. It's rare that hotel pillows don't immediately collapse like an empty paper bag. The bed was comfortable as well and the shower had good water pressure. We also had a chance to check out the indoor pool and the steam room and sauna. It was a treat to swim indoors while rare single digit temps were just on the other side of the wall. The only downside is that the steam room never warmed up but the sauna did work quite well. Service wise, the front desk was extremely quick to respond to any requests, be it extra room keys or towels and it was convenient to have the palm restraunt in the lobby just in case we were snowed in. It's been several years since I've stayed at this Westin hotel but it will be near the top of my list for my next Atlanta visit.
