Henderson, Nevada: Thriving Suburb Close to the Vegas Strip

A Las Vegas suburb, Henderson is conveniently close to the Strip but also far enough away to be an escape from the bustle. Livability.com named it a top family vacation destination, highlighting the city’s culture scene, which includes area art galleries and outdoor symphony concerts. At the Clark County Museum, visitors can trace southern Nevada’s history via a timeline exhibit. The museum campus also has several historic buildings—including a decades-old barn and a wedding chapel—as well as a walk-in mining trail.

You’ll find the Hoover Dam, one of America’s Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders, about 20 miles east of town. Take the guided tour if you want to learn more about the dam’s history and get a look at the inner passageways. Nearby Lake Mead hosts all sorts of watersports, including kayaking and fishing, but the bulk of the lake’s recreation area consists of mountains and valley with trails for hiking.

Henderson’s shopping scene is another draw: the town features one of the most popular malls off the Strip, Galleria at Sunset. The two-level shopping center houses more than 140 shops and five department stores. But Galleria really stands out because of its Southwestern-themed decor, including fountains, palm trees, and a topiary of animals in the food court. Alternatively, The District at Green Valley Ranch offers an outdoor shopping experience with a pedestrian-friendly promenade that’s lined with boutiques and restaurants. There are also ample opportunities to relax here with a lushly landscaped central park and a grassy courtyard where musicians play live on Friday and Saturday nights from May through October.

Outdated and not worth it. The exterior is the most impressive thing about this hotel. Once you get inside and past the lobby area, you’ll find that the rooms, elevator, and hallways are outdated and not clean. I could live with the outdated part, but cleanliness is a must, particularly in today’s world. The carpet was stained, both of our rooms had a general musty/old smoke odor, and the pillowcases were discolored to the point that they looked yellow next to the sheets. I expected a Westin feel and environment and was completely underwhelmed. I’d suggest looking elsewhere in Henderson, especially at this price point.

Excellent service in a relaxed atmosphere. 5 star plus service makes it worthwhile to drive 30 minutes from the strip. An incredible menu with an outstanding Japanese chef. Lamb chops to die for. Absolutely first class. The most relaxing hotel in Las Vegas. A favorite of mine. Easy-to-use self parking area and great service by the valet parking staff. Great views of the lake from most rooms . A very nice swimming pool area and a terrific outdoor seating area with fire pits overlooking the lake.

Should Not be Hosting Events or Open Full Capacity! Where do I begin? We arrived at 4:05 pm to check-in and waited in line for 45 minutes to be told that they had no rooms available. We were told we'd receive a call or text when it was ready and that we'd have to get back in line to get a key. How ridiculous is that when we've already stood in line? MInd you the line doubled by 5:30pm. By 7:30 we had not received a call or text and got back in line. We finally got a key at 9:03 pm with tired children! in tow! Not only are they understaffed, but they do not have enough washcloths available! My room came with 1 washcloth and they said they couldn't give me another during my stay. How are you hosting a basketball tournament with not enough supplies for people to clean themselves? At the very least they should have notified guests ahead of time to prepare themselves prior to traveling. This hotel should not be open at full capacity nor should it be hosting events at this time. I will never stay here again.
