Tempe, Arizona: University Town near Phoenix

If you hear Tempe natives referring to a mountain, there's no need to ask which one. It's the local nickname for Tempe Butte, a steep hill with a 60-foot-tall letter A emblazoned on its south face in honor of Arizona State University. The hill stands just north of the school's campus, which is home to a student body of more than 70,000. Many of them congregate in the brewpubs, shops, and coffeehouses in the Mill Avenue District.

Only a 20-minute drive away, Phoenix offers several acclaimed museums. At the Children's Museum of Phoenix, kids can build forts, measure vegetables in a pintsize market, and help paint a 10-foot-tall robot. The Phoenix Art Museum includes a collection of Thorne rooms—miniature dioramas of ornate interiors kept tidy by a fleet of tiny roombas.

Luxury King Bed Accomodations Perfect for catching an early morning flight. Selected this hotel as it is close to the airport. Nice hotel, beautiful room, friendly staff. Convenient on-site valet parking with unlimited in/out, especially if you have an early flight. You can also park across the street. Very clean and comfortable. Really like their lightly scented tea soaps and lotion.

A Comfortable Stay Near ASU I stayed at the The Westin Tempe for a few nights while visiting my son, and the location is excellent for all things ASU. There are plenty of great food options within walking distance, as well as additional restaurants just a short drive away. The room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. I did experience an issue with the TV and contacted the front desk later in the evening. They promptly sent someone to troubleshoot, and the issue was resolved quickly, which I truly appreciated. The hotel offers complimentary drinks at the bar, including non-alcoholic options and house margaritas. While I appreciated the gesture, I was disappointed with the margarita. The bartender shared that they had recently switched from making them from scratch to using a pre-made mix, which was noticeable, as the drink primarily tasted like sour mix. As someone who has bartended for years, that stood out to me and was my only real complaint. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely stay here again.

Avoid this hotel: Billing error; awful management What is the most stressful part about traveling for work? Being overcharged for the stay and having to deal with the problem for weeks. I was incorrectly charged a few hundred dollars on my card. When the billing error was reported to the front office, Jayden acknowledged it and told me the charge would be corrected by a manager. Well, weeks later, the unauthorized charge is still on my credit card. Reported the problem to a manager, but received no response or resolution for weeks. Danielle at the front desk is unqualified to work at a full-service hotel, where communication with guests is a key function. The lack of professionalism, accountability, attention to detail, and basic customer service at this hotel was shocking. This property feels more like a poorly managed motel than a Westin hotel.
