Waltham, Massachusetts: Hub of Higher Education and Technology Outside Boston

Dating back to the early 19th century, Waltham has been at the center of Greater Boston’s industry and labor movements. It earned the nickname “Watch City” after the Waltham Watch Company—the first business to make timepieces on an assembly line—opened its factory here in 1854. Visitors can learn about that time-keeping heritage at the Waltham Museum.

Today, this city on the Charles River is best known as a hotbed of research and higher education. Several technology companies, including Raytheon, are headquartered here, and it’s also home to Brandeis University and Bentley University. On the weekend, scores of students pack into the breweries and restaurants on Moody Street downtown.

Disgusted! Disgusted! Frequent flyer/traveler and Westin is my go to hotel. By far the nastiest property. Literally fly in after a long flight to pubic hairs on the shower walls! No accommodations because the hotel was booked!

Poor service and outdated rooms. I’ll start this review to let everyone know that I base this review with extensive experience with Marriotts around the world - over 1000 nights stayed and I don’t typically write reviews unless the experience was that bad and I want to warn fellow travelers. I’m a loyal Marriott customer but would never stay here again. Service at this hotel was really bad. I blame management because the hotel is under staffed and the minimal staff they have are poorly trained. Front desk staff was rude and not at all accommodating. We missed the beginning of the service because of them even though I checked in 24 hours early and requested a check-in time of 1:30. We didn’t get to eat breakfast because the restaurant was under staffed and the line for the buffet seating was out the door. The room was not in great shape - bathroom drains clogged, bathroom vent fan inoperable, desk AC outlets inoperable, etc. Overall, the hotel is poorly managed. The staff is not to blame - they are doing the best they can with the limited resources provided.

Restaurant’ experience Many complements to Sheila Ramirez who works at the Relish Restaurant at the hotel. Besides her great knowledge of the menu in which helped me to make a great dinner choice, she is also very kind, helpful and generous. They’re lucky to have her working for them. She’s a great addition!
