Downtown Boston: Revolution-Era Landmarks and Modern Skyscrapers

Downtown Boston is home to one of the country’s wackiest city layouts. Its colonial-village lanes converge, split, and take hairpin turns, creating a maze of cobblestone that, though frustrating for drivers, makes for a fun walking experience. If you’re visiting for the first time, the best way to navigate the area is to follow the 2.5-mile-long Freedom Trail, which takes you past 16 historical landmarks, including Paul Revere’s home, Old North Church (of “One if by land, two if by sea” fame), and Faneuil Hall. You can use Boston public transportation to explore the city if you tire of walking.

Since the area is also the city’s financial district, centuries-old fixtures share sidewalk space with modern 40-story office towers. You’ll find suit-clad professionals grabbing lunch on Washington Street, which is lined with street vendors and flower shops. Downtown is also where you’ll find several of the city’s quirkier neighborhoods, such as the Leather District. With its rustic warehouses, the neighborhood is the closest example of what the business center looked like in the 1800s.

Not meeting the Westin standards From the beginning be prepared for under staffing issues or for things that truly are not impressive. Tried to check in in mobile key and would not let me. Went to desk and said it was due to AAA rate. Stood for 10 min next in line and watched three associates addresss one customer while others waited for help.. asked for an upgrade previously as I am a titanium member and was told I got one. Room was 1033 and nothing upgradeable about it. Secondly ice machine and water machines did not work. The sanitizer was out at the elevators and informed front desk told it would be addressed and at hours later not refilled. Looked to have a coffee prior to trip home Starbucks in lobby has sign with hours and we’d third fri it says they open at 630 so I got there at 625 and after waiting five minutes the girl inside said we don’t open till 7 I said the sign says 630 she said it’s a mistake. I don’t know but I think this property has several issues. Hopefully they can address them.

Not Looking Good Not looking good so far. We booked three rooms, three nights. After driving all day, we arrive to check in, only to find no kings available. We have been waiting in the lobby at the front desk for more than 30 minutes now. The manager and the front desk attendant have gone in the back for 30 minutes. It is very frustrating. They’re nice enough, but we are Marriott platinum members. This is unacceptable.

Bring your own water No water at front desk. No water when requested from dialing 0. No room service past 11. Card keys did not work. Room with city view is on the 4th floor. And valet parking is $54. Pass on this fake hotel.
