Hollywood, California: Iconic Tinseltown History and Hot Spots

It almost needs no introduction: Hollywood is one of the most famous locations in the United States, home to movie studios, historic theaters, and that iconic name-bearing sign. On Hollywood Boulevard, you can see the Walk of Fame, which features plaques in the sidewalk honoring more than 200 celebrities. In addition to their handprints, some celebrities have left some unusual imprints next to their names—Groucho Marx's cigar, Whoopi Goldberg's dreadlocks, and the wands of Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. The centerpiece of the Walk of Fame is the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre, where A-list celebrities have gathered for movie premieres since 1927.

Rock groups such as The Doors and Mötley Crüe got famous at raucous clubs on the Sunset Strip, one block south of Hollywood. One of the clubs, the Whisky A Go-Go, is still a boisterous nightspot today. About a mile east on Sunset Boulevard is the lovably retro Mel's Drive-In, where George Lucas filmed scenes for American Graffiti in 1973. The café is located in the historic Max Factor building, where stars like Bette Davis once got their makeup done. The Hollywood Museum, also located here, houses film memorabilia including Marilyn Monroe's sparkly dresses and Hannibal Lecter's holding cell.

Clean rooms friendly staff but.... The rooms are kept very clean. However, throughout our stay there was some issues with communication. We were informed on check in that free coffee was available between 6-11, there was signage on the coffee machine supporting this. At 6:20 am before leaving for our Disney day we went to get coffee from the lobby and it was locked. We went to the window and the attendant on duty told us it wasn't available until 7 am. Not the end of the world but VERY frustrating when you're already waking up so early and we're told it would be available. The following day we were sleeping in recovering from our open to close park day. We put the DND sign on the door. The front desk ended up calling and waking us up to check if we wanted housekeeping... If the hotel staff is reading this: if the DND sign is up past a certain time just send your house keepers home. Guests understand what they're doing when the DND sign is on the door. Lastly if you're considering staying here and you get the notification about online check out don't bother. This will simply result in them calling to see if your room is empty before the time you indicated you'd leave on your online check out. Other considerations: parking lot is tiny and every other guest parks on or over the lines. The pool was empty and closed. Right across the street from a decent 24/7 diner and late night grocery. Near some good restaurants. Overall 3/5, maybe 3.5/5 due to general annoyance.

Decent place to stay at. Cute motel complex, great parking & security on-site. So many places to check out walking distance. Great place to stay if visiting family in the hospital just 6 minutes away. Will definitely be back to explore around the area. Staff was very helpful & welcoming. Rooms were clean, only issue was shower head was too low for us, but that didn’t effect our stay. Working refrigerator, microwave, and AC. Quiet at night. Pool is being renovated but wasn’t an issue for us since we were mostly in the hospital. My bed was a bit hard for me but not for others who stayed with me. Keep in mind, Some people like hard beds others don't, they can't please everyone. Yes pillows had plastic cover, which I've seen at multiple places in different cities that do that. Was told it's to protect the pillows.

Sign says be back in 15 minutes. 15 minutes from when? I was running extremely late to a concert because I blew a tire earlier in the day and when I got down to the hotel even after emailing saying what time I would be there, there was a sign in the window saying they would be back in 15 minutes. Well 15 minutes from when exactly? So now I'm even more late to my concert cuz I have to wait around for them to come back and who knows how long it had been since they had left cuz they didn't put that on the sign. Not the best first impression especially when I'm stressed out trying to get there and driving from an hour and a half away. Upon check out I asked when I could expect the $100 deposit to be released back to my card and they said 4:00 p.m. so 5 hours later after checkout. I drive an EV and need to charge it and I'm broke because I had to replace the tire that I wasn't expecting to replace yesterday and then spend $100 on a deposit then I can't even get for several hours so now I'm stranded in LA needing to get back home and can't because I've got to wait around for this money to be released and hoping that my bank will put it back to my card instantly which they probably won't knowing them. So that's kind of ridiculous but other than that it was a decent hotel, clean accommodations and security who checked everyone going back in to make sure that they were registered to the hotel. I just wish I'd known that it would take them hours to release my $100 deposit because other hotels don't take that long so I just assumed everyone was like that. My bad for assuming anything I guess.
