Lake Buena Vista, Florida: Gateway to World-Famous Theme Parks and Downtown Orlando

About 20 miles from downtown Orlando, Lake Buena Vista is the home of the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks and is named after the street where The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank is located. The world’s most-visited entertainment resort, spanning nearly 30,000 acres, encompasses four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, and the Downtown Disney® Area. There’s no shortage of things to do here: begin your day at Magic Kingdom® Park by boarding Space Mountain® Attraction, a rocket-shaped three-seater that climbs to 180 feet before entering a deep black tunnel and racing past stars, satellites, and constellations. After that, ride past the ghastly goofballs inside The Haunted Mansion. For dinner, head over to Epcot® to sample cuisine from Morocco, Mexico, France, Italy, and several other countries at the World Showcase. The park's success has brought an influx of other theme parks to Orlando, including Universal Studios and SeaWorld.

Those hoping to shake up the typical theme-park-dominated itinerary can head into downtown Orlando's vibrant arts district. The neighborhood boasts venues such as the CityArts Factory, a multifaceted patchwork of gallery spaces, and SAK Comedy Lab, which holds improv shows 5 nights a week.

About a 10-minute drive north from the arts district, you’ll find several cultural institutions surrounding Orlando Loch Haven Park, including the Orlando Museum of Art, with a collection featuring pieces by Georgia O’Keeffe, Robert Rauschenberg, Ansel Adams, and Andy Warhol. Loch Haven Park is also home to the Orlando Shakespeare Theater and the Orlando Science Center. Visit the science center to take a rover across a simulation of Mars’ red surface, or race model cars down a more than 50-foot pinewood derby track.

Please Look Elsewhere If Possible Sadly, I found this hotel to be below standards of a Marriott affiliate. The hallways rugs were in desperate need of cleaning/replacement. The baseboard scuffed crying out for a cleaning or paint. Our room was serviced... and they did take the towels on day two. However, they didn't replace them. Burned out light bulbs in the room. The elevator doors were coated with a plastic overlay sign tempting you to come to Disney... but they were half torn off and added to the general look of neglect. The overall feeling was despair inducing. The wifi was VERY slow. The breakfast did have a lot of seating, but the offerings were low quality even by free breakfast standards. The elevators were very slow and there was only one per building... so people are queued up to load up by the time it arrives. For a four floor building... it was need of servicing/upgrade. Maybe they can take some of kick back from the 36 dollar a day parking they allow a third party to charge you to park there to do some much needed refreshing. I assume this is a franchise establishment... I've never seen a corporate run hotel in the portfolio feel so run down. A real shame.

It’s a Hard Pass Where do I start? Requested low floor for handicapped, forget it, wouldn’t be ready for two hours after check in. Room provided is not handicapped friendly. This hotel is sectioned off into wings, you cannot navigate with tight elevator pathway and there is no direct way to get to the first floor. A nightmare for handicapped people. There is no ice maker, you have to go to the first floor, have fun with that. Parking was comped, a plus. Make sure you have an iPhone, since you have to scan a QR code and enter your license plate, it’s twitchy. The front desk was very helpful in navigating it, had to go back down to the first floor since I did not receive a receipt after putting in all my info. The room, it’s ok, the water was hot instantly, but both bathrooms suffer from constant dripping faucets in the bathtub. The internet is very bad. TV channels are very basic, they do not provide a seamless picture, cuts in and out no decent continuity. Maintenance was too busy with other things to fix our TVs, it was around 9 PM. If they came the next day, cannot confirm, nothing got fixed. Staff is very friendly, but that doesn’t make our stay fantastic. There are some things that felt like nickel and diming, such as if you have a package delivered it costs $5 per pkg up to 5, pets $150 and $20 a day, which seems a bit of overkill. Breakfast, yuk, usual fare, they should have plastic utensils, salt and pepper packets, not flatware and salt and pepper shakers that everyone has access to. One guest was running around barefoot, just nasty. We didn’t stay. I’ll stick to Fairfield Inn @ Lake Buena Vista and just get two rooms rather than a family unit. Will never again stay here. Our stay was 3 nights. Had to call for extra towels, we were a family of 6,

Front desk handling of missing item Once I had checked out of the hotel I realized I had left one of my airpods on the bed. Immediately the next morning I called the reception and spoke to Francesca and informed her about the airpod that I left on the bed. Instead of hanging up the call Francesca told me to wait and in a matter of minutes she informed me she had located it (what a relief!) and was going to place it in the hotel safe. Francesca then obtained instructions on how to get it to me in Miami. Once I received Francesca's instructions I followed them and my airpod was received safely at home. I do appreciate the personal treatment I received by Francesca in the handling, packing and shipping of my airpod. I do value her sense of responsibility in resolving my issue. Employees like her are valuable to the organization.

very good experience First of all, I want to highlight the friendliness and willingness of ALL of the hotel’s staff, with a special mention to Gregorio and the breakfast ladies. They satisfied my whims and made me feel comfortable :) Regarding the facilities, the rooms are very comfortable, spacious and clean. Breakfast is ok, pool and gym are well kept. The only thing that I did not like is the maintenance of the rug. It is visibly dirty and sticky all over the hotel. It needs some attention ASAP!
