Downtown Minneapolis: Thriving Performing-Arts Scene near Idyllic Lakes

Downtown Minneapolis is more than just the geographic epicenter of the city—it’s the cultural heart too. Sports venues home to the Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins neighbor the lively nightclubs of the Warehouse District and the neon-lit marquees of the Hennepin Theater District. In recent years, the city’s arts scene has gotten a lot of attention, and for good reason: Minneapolis has more live theater shows per capita than any other US city except New York. Additionally, dozens of eclectic galleries complement the wide-ranging exhibits at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, which showcases everything from Japanese woodcut prints to turn-of-the-century European advertisements.

To navigate downtown with ease, step into the Skyway, the city’s ingenious solution to harsh Minnesota winters. The Skyway is a network of indoor, aboveground tunnels connecting a slew of buildings downtown. A popular stop along the way is Nicollet Mall, a shopping thoroughfare where cars are not allowed. This is where you’ll find the iconic statue of Mary Tyler Moore tossing her 10-gallon Stetson into the air.

Beautiful hotel with tons of great amenities! The hotel is BEAUTIFUL - possibly renovated recently, but I'm not sure. It actually seems like a new hotel, not a renovated one with just a fresh coat of paint. The hotel staff was friendlier than hardly any I've met before. The room was perfectly clean, comfy beds, great pillows and big fluffy towels. They outdid themselves by having a roomy work station desk with great lighting and a coffee table that converts into a desk that sits within TV viewing if you want to do both. Large bathroom and shower area. Close to great shops and restaurants. There are plug-ins everywhere including several for phones and regular sockets on both sides of the bed, plus reading lamps above each side. We didn't have time for breakfast, but we glanced in and it looked amazing! We have already told friends what a great place this was to stay and very easy to reach.

Angry customer The main reason I booked this hotel was the pool and hot tub, which were under repair when we arrived. I did some research and found that they had been closed for a while. The price we paid includes all the amenities so it's frustrating that the pool and hot tub were closed. Also, there was no hot water at the coffee station, not everybody drinks coffee, and no water cooler in the lobby, hard to believe this is an IHG property.

Very Nice hotel! Very nice hotel! Front desk staff was very friendly. Room was clean and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was very good with eggs, bacon & sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereal, yogurt, breads and delicious cinnamon rolls. Great location with many restaurants and shopping just across the highway. I would definitely stay here again.
