Palm Desert, California: Shopping and Wildlife in Scenic Coachella Valley

Palm Desert shares the desert landscape and resort atmosphere of Palm Springs, about 20 miles to the northeast. It’s worth it to visit Palm Desert’s El Paseo, known as the Rodeo Drive of the desert for its art galleries, high-end boutiques, and brand-name retailers such as Gucci, Ralph Lauren, and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Palm Desert is also a gateway town to the more than 750,000-acre Joshua Tree National Park, located less than 60 miles away. In addition to being the birthplace of Bono, the desert park is famous for its unusual geologic formations and mountains of twisted rock, ideal for rock climbing. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife including desert bighorn sheep, golden eagles, and coyotes.

For a guaranteed glimpse of wildlife, check out The Living Desert, a zoo, botanical garden, and animal hospital in Palm Desert. As you stroll throughout the various geographical regions—including North America and Africa’s Village WaTuTu—you will see flora and fauna indigenous to that area, which can include Mexican gray wolves, giraffes, or jaguars. The Living Desert also boasts a G-scale model train that winds its way through replicas of historical scenes, including a California mining and logging town and the Grand Canyon.

Where do I start - first staff were phenomenal - attentive and caring. Second the room had plenty of space with the suite we could cook or go downstairs for free warm breakfast and simple free salad/soup dinner option Monday - Thursday. We used the laundry facility - the pool - the hot jacuzzi. Our dogs were well recieved and we appreciated the house keeping staff. Location was perfect to go to local events and activities.

Great stay for me. Great room and great service despite the extremely hot weather. Many conveniences surrounding the hotel, and I felt safe and comfortable. Just minutes away from downtown PS and the local casinos. Just blocks away from the 10 freeway. Thank you.

Good Location! Gorgeous Town! Average Hotel! Location is good. Town is gorgeous! Room was a one bedroom plus kitchen. The full size fridge with freezer is totally awesome! Had cold drinks with ice packs on the way in there, refroze the packs over night and the continued travelling the following day. Bed was a little noisy and carpets/decor is dated. Place is clean though and served it purpose. Breakfast was included and it was horrible! I asked for skim milk for my cereal and was given a LOUD HARD NO! There are a few covered parking spaces although all the parking is outdoors and it was very HOT! 120F plus!!! Hotel is very close to Acrisure Arena! All in all, I would stay there again if I was passing through Palm Desert again.

A Fine Hotel A Fine Hotel in Need of Some Care. We have stayed hear a number of times and have always found it a great stay, This time it was very crowded and the front desk staff was a bit overwhelmed with check ins, however they handled them with calm and professionally. The hotel was very clean and the pat king ample to handle everyone with easy access to your room. The rooms, however we're in need a some care, especially the furnishings. They were really beginning to show their ware and tear. With that said, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The beds and linens perfect. Breakfast was abundant in choices and staff kept it clean and items full. I always enjoy Hilton Hotels and they rarely disappoint, other than the shabby furnishing this Hotel lived up to expectations. A recommended stopover on your travels.
