Spicer, Minnesota: Quiet Getaway on Green Lake

Minnesota’s state nickname, “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” can be hard to conceptualize. Not so in Spicer, located on the shores of Green Lake. Hundreds of lakes both big and small surround the city, making area maps appear as though they’ve just been rained on. All those freshwater lakes mean there’s plenty of fishing to do in summer, as well as ice-fishing in winter. A popular place for both is Sibley State Park, home to sandy beaches and old stone structures that have landed the park on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s also a fine spot for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter, and rumor has it that the park holds buried treasure.

Great hotel too bad they have a passive aggressive person at their desk I moved to another hotel Hilton Worldwide 7930 Jones Branch Drive McLean, VA 22102July 25, 2024Dear Hilton Worldwide Customer Service,I am writing to express my disappointment with the service I received during my recent stay at the Hampton Inn in Spicer, Minnesota. While my initial experience was satisfactory, several issues arose that significantly impacted my overall stay.Upon checking in on [date], I was assigned the wrong room type. However, a helpful staff member quickly rectified the mistake and assisted me in moving to the correct room. His efforts were much appreciated, and I commend him for his excellent customer service.During my stay, I needed to make some copies, and Dakota provided outstanding service, ensuring the process was smooth and efficient. The hotel was clean, and I initially had a positive impression of the facility. However, my experience took a negative turn when I called to extend my stay and spoke with Tim. He was short, rude, and unprofessional. When I requested to speak with his immediate manager, he told me that it was private information and none of my business. I found this response unacceptable, particularly because I wanted to know the name of the general manager, given that there was a change in management during my stay. Tim’s refusal to provide even a first name, citing security concerns, was perplexing and came across as passive-aggressive.Due to this unpleasant interaction, I felt compelled to hang up and contact Hilton to lodge a complaint. I subsequently rebooked my stay at the Holiday Inn Express, which offered larger rooms and a pleasant experience. It is unfortunate that one staff member’s attitude overshadowed what could have been a pleasant stay. I do not recommend this hotel as long as Tim remains on staff due to his attitude problem. I hope that this feedback is taken seriously and that appropriate actions are taken to ensure other guests do not have a similar experience. Sincerely,Robert

Great night of rest. This hotel is very close to Green Lake so the view we have is good. The front desk guy (Tim) was very helpful getting our Wi fi up and running, very much appreciated this. He also gave us great advice on where to eat. A place called O'Neil just a very short walk from the hotel. The room was spiffy clean and the beds comfy. We love this place.

My extended stay My stay at the Hampton Inn in Spicer Minnesota was outstanding, great location, the rooms are very nice and clean. The entire staff is very professional and friendly. I didn't feel like just another number. The breakfast is hot, and a lot of choices. They also provide A grill, and A Patio with very comfortable furniture, and A fireplace to relax by. I can't say enough good things about the hotel and staff. I'm looking forward to my next stay. I highly recommend this hotel, rather you're driving through,or stationary in the area more than one night.

Completely Satisfied I was booked at a different hotel that had to close temporarily due to a roof collapse. Hampton Inn honored the rate for the other hotel , and could not have been more accommodating. Every staff member that I dealt with was professional and courteous which made my stay a great experience.
