Tucson, Arizona: Southwestern History and Culture amid the Cacti

Over Tucson’s long history, it’s absorbed elements from the many peoples who have lived or passed through here: Native Americans, Europeans, Latinos, and Asians to name a few. Today, this unique blend is especially evident in the downtown restaurant scene, where you can get authentic chilies rellenos, sushi, and upscale bistro food with fine wines from nearby vintners.

Visitors can soak up the area’s gorgeous natural landscape at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, a combined botanical garden and zoo. Here, gila monsters and more than 1,200 kinds of plants inhabit 21 acres of desert scenery. Among Tucson’s manmade wonders is Mission San Xavier del Bac, a white adobe church whose interior is adorned with frescoes and sculptures. It was built in the 1700s and is one of the oldest intact European structures in Arizona.

Most beautiful resort! I loved the area for kids with the slide that we had so much fun on. I also loved that there was a separate area for adults only, when I needed a break from kid noise. The room was huge and had an amazing view of the mountains and pools.

Overall, our stay was great, a lot of things were closed or were done in a different format due to Covid-19. The swim up bar was closed, spa closed, Azul was open for breakfast, but overpriced now that all the food is in plastic. The bed was definitely not a king sized bed and the hotel needs some updates here and there. Pools were great! Overall we enjoyed our stay!

The staff needs more training during these Covid times. The $30+ resort fee now no longer includes free bottled water in your room and they have not updated anything in writing that reflects this new policy. They have a security guard for the pool that literally does nothing. There were a ton of kids in the adult only pools. Both hot tubs were overcrowded with teens making out. It was a Sunday night and they had someone dressed like a manager come around at 10pm to tell people to get out of the pool. And then the front desk told us we could come back and use the pool after we had checked out, but later when inquired they told us no. :/ You'd think they would want business and be more on it concerning customer service but it felt like the opposite.
