Gaylord, Michigan: Alpine Village in the Snow Belt of the Northern Lower Peninsula
"Indoors" might as well be a four-letter word in Gaylord. There are so many outdoor activities in this northern Lower Michigan town that residents and visitors spend most of their time in the fresh air. Swimming in Otsego Lake, hiking, and golfing are popular during the warmer months, but winter is when Gaylord really thrives. The town is located in the region's snow belt and gets more than 180 inches of snow each year. Hundreds of miles of cross-country skiing and snowmobiling trails crisscross its wooded terrain. Head to Groen Nature Preserve for some of the most accessible trails—be sure to pick up trail maps at the Gaylord Area Convention & Tourism Bureau beforehand.
The town itself is reminiscent of an Alpine village. Gingerbread buildings housing specialty shops, boutiques, and restaurants line the walkable downtown. The chalet-style architecture dates back to the 1930s when community leaders adopted the theme throughout the town.

The skiing was amazing considering how spring like this winter has been. Allan at tubing was awesome, as was Molly in the pro shop, and Ralph from ski patrol. The room was pretty terrible but we had a great time regardless.

DO NOT STAY HERE We reserved a remodeled room requested top floor not over the pool. Reservation was switched without notification to a dirty old room over the pool & they refused to relocate us to room initially reserved. Room was disgusting, musty not in the Lodge but at The Inn. They claimed they ‘upgraded us’-flew from Fla, package prepaid so we were stuck. Saving grace were the great golf courses. Never will we recommend this resort!

Great Family Day Our family had so much fun at Sylvan Daze! Everyone helping with rentals was so friendly and I especially like that they strap your boots for you. We are glad we got there before 10 as the line was so long around 11-12. The lift operators were all friendly, especially Kaeden. He was so positive throughout the whole day singing, dancing, and even playing rock paper scissors with our son. Overall we were very impressed and had a wonderful time. Our son even did the slush cup and had a blast! The next day we went extreme tubing and that was great as well. Allen explained everything in detail. We will definitely be back!

Easter Seals loves Treetops! We had an amazing stay at Treetops Resort! Jim our shuttle driver was super helpful. We didn't know the shuttle service had ended for the night, he was kind enough to still bring us back to the Inn. Thank you Jim! Also, HUGE thank you to Brett the bartender at Legends! He stayed open for an extra hour for our group! He had some wait staff on also! Thank you Brett, Krysten and 2 other very nice wait staff!
