Paso Robles, California: Family-Owned Wineries and Hot Springs

Paso Robles was founded just after the Civil War by the uncle of notorious outlaw Jesse James, who even hid out there on occasion. Today, though, the town isn’t too rough around the edges—Paso Robles exudes an understated European elegance, with its Victorian architecture and vibrant green hills. The temperate Mediterranean climate is conducive to the growth of grapes, too. You can sample rhone and syrah blends at 1 of the roughly 200 wineries in the area, many of them family owned. In the historical town center, you’ll find stately Victorian buildings and specialty shops that sell chocolate and artisan cheese from local farms.

There are therapeutic minerals in the water at the popular Franklin Hot Springs, which keep at a temperature around 97 degrees. Nearby Franklin Ponds is a nice, quiet place to canoe or cast out for bluegill, largemouth bass, and bags of Goldfish crackers. Or head to the Salinas River trail, where you can bike or take a peaceful hike.

Not Big Rig Friendly...Don't arrive Early Arrived 45 mins before checkin time and was charged a $35 dollar fee .. ridiculous. Was told each site was powerwashed prior to checking in, which is a lie based on the sites conditions and daily observations. Checkin person and shift leader were not polite and a bit condescending. Should have dropped the trailer (at the front door) and went to lunch (as suggested) instead of paying the ransom. By the way the spot was vacant upon our arrival. Not Big Rig friendly... was given a "tricky" spot (as stated by management) that was impossible for my rig to turn into .. so I ran over a sign! Thanks for the additional expense.

A joke of a self proclaimed “RV Resort” “Luxury RV Sites” not so much I’m not sure why they claim luxury. It’s just cement pads on top of each other so no one has any privacy from their neighbors. Definitely not worth the $1600 a month to stay here. You would think for $1600 there would be more and better options offered. It is a very clean campground, I will give them that. It says it includes a picnic table at the back in sites and we were there for 3 months and never saw 1 picnic table. We are dog friendly people, we did not travel with our dogs, the campground is full of dogs which is great, our daughter loved it. Except there was constant barking from all over the campground. My neighbors dogs barked multiple times a day and multiple times at night, constantly waking us all up in the middle of the night and my daughter during her nap midday. They do not enforce their own quiet hour rule. Like I said dogs were constantly barking, people playing loud music, loud diesel pickups and playing loud music driving throughout the campground. They offer a great pool area, one bigger pool but it’s always in the shade because of the big solar panels they built. And one smaller pool in full sun which is nice. But it doesn’t matter because the water is so cold there’s no way we would ever try to take our toddlers swimming in those pools. There’s also a large jacuzzi in the shade. It is a family friendly campground unless you have kids that nap during the day. It is very noisy. Not to mention it is located right along the freeway so you’re constantly hearing the roaring vehicle and truck sounds from that. They had some tiny homes lining the outside of the campground that they were removing, I’m assuming to make more room for RVs. Which is great Monday-Friday. Then they were removing them Saturday and Sunday as well. Sunday is my husbands only day off and the only full day we get to spend together as a family. And we got to spend our beautiful Sunday sitting outside with our toddler playing and grilling, while listening to the banging and hammering and the loud trucks taking out the tiny homes on a SUNDAY. They do have an awesome building by the pool that offers use of a play/game room, kitchen, grills, and dining room. Which is great but it’s constantly filled with people who are not staying in the campground on the weekends, so the people that are staying there and paying for the amenities can’t use it on the weekends. Like I said, definitely not worth the $1600 monthly fees for long term living. If you’re here for just a night or two might not be that big of a deal. When we first got here we were told it would be $1400 monthly payments and not even a month in we get a call that they are raising the rates to $1600. Quite a joke of a “RV Resort”.

Vines stay at Paso Robles Hi, we stayed at the Vines, Paso Robles, this past week at cabin 17. Your site is very convenient to access and offered us the opportunity to visit with a relative. For the price paid to stay in the cabin, approx $280 per night! - we were not happy with the accommodations. The bathroom had only 2 bath towels, 1 wash cloth and no bathmat or rug to step out onto after showering - slippery at best!. The toilet had not been cleaned - smelly and yellow stained from urine. A rug at the entrance. either inside or out. to the cabin would cut down on dirt coming in. There was no bedside tables at the head of the beds to put anything on that might be needed during the night. The power was out on our second night there. The check out list asked that we wash and dry with the provided dish soap and towels - however, there was no soap or towels to accommodate the rule - so we did not use any of the dishes, etc. It seems like adding some towels, rugs and soap (small accommodations) might go along with future occupants to the cabins. Sincerely, Margaret T
