Manhattan's Midtown West: Edgy, Urban Vibe with Lots of Restaurants

Though it's a stone's throw from top attractions such as Central Park, Broadway, and Radio City Music Hall, Midtown West can feel a little grittier and less developed than some of the surrounding NYC neighborhoods. Stretching roughly from 59th to 29th Street and the Hudson River to 8th Avenue (though some say it continues as far east as Madison Avenue), Midtown West lacks the chain restaurants of Times Square and the large department stores of 5th Avenue. Instead, you can find neighborhood markets, cafes, and walk-up row houses.

Midtown West is also known as Hell's Kitchen, a nod to the numerous restaurants that serve everything from Asian street food to fine French cuisine. The neighborhood's eateries and bars are especially concentrated along 9th and 10th Avenues, and it's easy to walk between them all.

Excellent location. Great and friendly staff. Unique but dated feel. Excellent location. Great and friendly staff. Unique but dated feel. The Warwick has been the hotel for our annual NYC destination trip twice out of the last five years. They always deliver for our group of between 10 and 15 groups. They are friendly to every guest and visitor. They do charge a small fee to hold your bags. The rooms aren't the biggest, but certainly aren't the smallest in NYC. I was upgraded to a suite on our recent trip and was really surprised by how much extra space we had. Oh, and everything is clean. They've done a solid job and will continue to be on our list of potential NYC hotel options. A short walk to central park, I would recommend you consider them as well!

Almost Perfect Until our last evening Our visit started out fantastic. Hotel is in a super location. Rooms were old fashioned but decent size, comfy beds and clean which was super important. On our last evening, my mum fell ( i must stress that it happened outside of the hotel so absolutely nothing to do with them). We arrived back to the hotel to decide what to do, as at this point she thought it was just a sprain and itd be ok. It was around 4.40pm and we asked for an ice pack and if we could sit in the bar area for a bit of privacy away from the busy lobby, my mum just wanted a minute before we went to be seen. . We were told No as the bar didn't open until 5pm. We asked for a brandy for her for the shock and details of the nearest medical center. The manager arrived shortly after we got into the bar, around 5.05pm and insinuated that we only wanted 'to drink' This was very insulting. It turned out my mum broke her wrist. She was seen in a nearby hospital and got great care. It's just unfortunate the hotel staff were less understanding of our situation. We did make a complaint and were told someone would be in contact but 2 months later we still have heard nothing. The only staff member who was kind was the doorman. Fair play to him for his kind words.

Worst Service You Can Imagine for a Four Star Hotel Soap ran out after one shower. I was busy with calls in the morning and was willing to deal with no housekeeping, but after telling housekeeper no less than 8 times to go away, she continued to interrupt my videoconferences all afternoon, including at 2:55pm after I told her I was going to leave the room at 3:00pm. Then I left at 3:00pm like I told her I would. I was gone for 8 hours at that point. Zero service performed on the room. No soap in shower. Called down to front desk to ask for the soap - “I don’t have anyone working here now.” Never staying here again.
